In every game, there are characters that are always underestimated – this is also true for Genshin Impact. We at MeinMMO are showing you 5 underrated characters today and why they are stronger and more useful than you think.
While characters like Ganyu or Hu Tao are highly sought after, there’s also the flip side: the characters that hardly anyone uses because they seem weak. Today we want to show you which characters are not as useless as you might think.
How did we come up with the list? For selecting the 5 heroes on our list, we based it on our own experiences from the community and the use in the Spiral Abyss (via spiralabyss.org). This dungeon is usually visited by players who are endgame and have a few well-built characters ready.

4-Star Character – Noelle
What is positive about Noelle? Noelle can fulfill multiple roles in your team through her abilities:
- Through her elemental ability, she provides you with a protective shield.
- While she uses her elemental ability, attacking with standard attacks and charged attacks, Noelle heals all team members.
- Her special ability has a high range.
- Noelle generates crystals that you can collect. These also provide a shield to the active character.
Noelle is one of the few characters whose stats scale with defense. The defense stat is the most common stat on artifacts. This makes it easier to farm artifacts for her.
Also, her best weapons are available at the blacksmith or in the battle pass. In terms of equipment, she is very low maintenance and can be helpful to you early on.
In short, Noelle is the perfect balance between defense, support, and attack.

What is really bad about Noelle? Noelle has these weaknesses:
- Only the 6th constellation enables the Geo fighter to function as a strong main DPS in the team.
- Her elemental ability generates no particles for her special ability.
- Noelle therefore requires some investment in recharge rate or a character that generates particles for her if you want to use her special ability more often.
How do you get Noelle? You can obtain Noelle through beginner prayers and anytime in the Wanderlust banner. Sometimes she appears in character event wishes.
5-Star Character – Qiqi
What is positive about Qiqi? Although Qiqi often receives a lot of hate from players and is frequently labeled as weak, she has these strengths:
- Heals the active character over time with her elemental ability.
- She can place a talisman on opponents that heals the active character when they attack that enemy.
- The special ability also places the talisman on nearby enemies.
- Qiqi’s healing scales with her attack stat, which allows you to build her for damage as well.
Qiqi’s health regeneration is one of the strongest in the game. If you have pulled Qiqi and need a reliable healer-support, equip Qiqi with the artifact set “Old Court Ritual”. This will ensure that she keeps your main DPS alive and supports him with the damage bonus from the artifact set.

What is really bad about Qiqi? Her elemental ability has an incredibly high cooldown of 30 seconds.

4-Star Character – Xinyan
What is positive about Xinyan? Xinyan can take multiple roles in the team through her abilities:
- Main DPS: If you build her physically, she can deal high damage and stay on the field.
- Sub DPS: You can quickly swap out Xinyan to use her elemental and special abilities. If you hit enough enemies and the shield reaches level 3, it even deals damage to enemies, even if she is not on the field.
- Support: The Pyro warrior can create a shield with her elemental ability that protects the active team member. A passive ability also increases the physical damage of characters shielded by 15%.
- Additionally, she can be used with the level-3 shield to trigger reactions with the Pyro element.
Xinyan can also make use of defense artifacts since her shield scales with it. When her 6th constellation is unlocked, her attack increases by 50% of her defense on charged attacks. Additionally, her 2nd constellation allows her special ability to always deal critical hits.

What is really bad about Xinyan? Some players experience a shield bug that causes her shield not to reach level 3 even though she hits enough enemies. YouTuber NavalhaBR captured the bug in a video (via YouTube).
In single combat, she cannot utilize the full potential of the shield.
How do you get Xinyan? You can obtain Xinyan anytime in the Wanderlust banner. Sometimes she appears in character event wishes.
4-Star Character – Amber
What is positive about Amber? Amber frequently finds herself at the bottom of tier lists because she deals lower damage compared to other Pyro characters, but that doesn’t make her a bad character by default. She brings the following strengths:
- High range with her special ability.
- Her special ability has strong, high scaling (via Honey Impact).
- Her elemental and special ability always deal Pyro area damage. This ensures that you can hit multiple enemies at once.
- Amber’s elemental ability summons a doll that distracts enemies. This allows you to deal damage with Amber safely.
- The special ability effectively destroys enemy shields.

What is really bad about Amber? It’s hard to get her constellations. Her 2nd constellation is highly useful, as it allows you to manually detonate the dolls from her elemental ability, dealing 200% additional damage with the explosion.
How do you get Amber? You obtain Amber during the story for free. After that, you can only get additional copies of her in the Wanderlust banner.
4-Star Character – Chongyun
What is positive about Chongyun? Chongyun offers the following often overlooked strengths:
- His elemental ability can convert normal attacks into Cryo attacks, making it easier to destroy enemy shields.
- He generates many particles with his elemental ability → effective Cryo battery.
- Increases attack speed on the ice field of the elemental ability when you have leveled Chongyun high enough to unlock the passive talent for it.
- Chongyun’s special ability has very low energy costs of 40 points and deals solid damage.
- The special ability is suitable for quickly swapping in Chongyun to deal damage with it.
- Chongyun’s special ability is excellent for destroying enemy shields.
- Together with Bennett’s special ability, Chongyun’s special ability can trigger a strong melt reaction three times.
- His 2nd constellation allows him to reduce the cooldown of special abilities by 15% that are used in the field of his elemental ability.

What is really bad about Chongyun? Chongyun has a harder time functioning as a main DPS due to slow attack animations and one of the lowest base attack values.
If you do not want your normal attacks to become Cryo attribute, the elemental ability might interfere.
