Thousands of players are playing simultaneously, and even more are watching on Twitch or other streaming platforms. What are these tips? The tips are meant to help you survive your first rounds in Fall Guys. The beginning can be quite tricky and frustrating, as even small mistakes can lead to defeat.
With our tips, you will have some useful advice on hand, so that you do not get eliminated in the first rounds but can win the various games – possibly even the crown if you try hard enough. These are general tips on control and mechanics, rather than specific hints for each individual game.
What is Fall Guys anyway? A crazy Battle Royale that resembles the cult show Takeshi’s Castle. You compete with 59 other players in multiple rounds to advance. Fall Guys is possibly the strangest Battle Royale you will ever play.
It’s all about skill and ability, as each game has its own tricks and tips to achieve victory. If it doesn’t work right away, keep trying. Practice and experience make a significant difference here.

1. Learn to jump properly
This may sound like a trivial tip, but it’s crucial in Fall Guys. Jumps have various functions in the game:
- Avoid obstacles
- Dodge opponents
- Score points on the way to the goal
- Perform dive jumps
You need all these functions if you want to win. In some games, you can gain a significant lead if you skillfully jump over an obstacle that your opponents are still blocked by, or by bridging a wide gap with a dive jump.
However, the most important thing is that you are subject to stronger physics while jumping. If you get hit or grabbed mid-jump, you lose your acceleration or may even be thrown around.
That’s why it’s important to quickly memorize in which situations you should jump and when you shouldn’t.
2. Hold on to opponents and edges
A function that many players ignore is grabbing (R2 on PS4, Shift on PC, RT on Xbox Controller). With this, you can hold onto edges and even pull yourself up, which will help you in many jump puzzles.
However, you can also hold onto opponents, which is almost more important. With the right timing, you can prevent them from jumping and even lure them into a pit. Or you can wait at an edge to intercept them upon arrival and sabotage them.
You also take away their speed when you hold onto them, which in games like Tail Tag can cause them to fall while you stay on top. Grabs can also be combined with jumps and dive jumps.
In team games, you can use grabs not only to grab tails and eggs but also to prevent opponents from reaching their targets. If opponents try to steal the tail of one of your teammates, protect him by holding onto the opponents.
3. Don’t always try to be first
This tip may sound strange in a Battle Royale, but it is actually useful in some games. When it comes to finding the right doors or the right path, it may help if you let someone go ahead of you.
You let this player do the work for you and can catch up later by having fewer obstacles in your way. Also, by being farther from the big crowd, you have more visibility.
This allows you to time your jumps and dive jumps better, so you can skip over some opponents and gain several positions at once.
4. Make use of the environment
In some games, there are objects made of yellow rubber decorated with a kind of confetti. When you touch these, you bounce off them, and you lose your movement speed and momentarily lose control of your character.
However, you can take advantage of these objects. They are flat enough for you to jump on them. If you time the jump correctly, you can avoid some obstacles completely in Slime Climb by jumping to a higher level.
Additionally, you can sabotage opponents by grabbing or using other environmental elements, like spinning bars. If you manage to throw an opponent against a bouncy object so that they get flung back, they lose valuable seconds.
5. Don’t get frantic
If you are like me and quickly get frustrated over your own mistakes, you should keep your frustration in Fall Guys as short as possible or try to suppress it. Because “tilting” will only lead you to defeat faster.
The physics in Fall Guys forgive no mistakes, and with bad timing when diving, you may hit your head on an edge and lose. This happens quickly and will certainly happen often, especially at the beginning.
However, don’t let such mistakes frustrate you; otherwise, they will keep happening more frequently. Since success in Fall Guys relies on skill, it’s even more important to learn from mistakes rather than repeat them.
Even if you get set back by a wrong jump, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are out. You don’t have to be first – it’s enough if you cross the finish line as the last of the qualifiers, as long as you do so.
Bonus tip for PC: Play with a controller!
This is a tip that I probably heeded too late, but it actually helps. Fall Guys is a game that feels like it’s made for controllers, and after some tests with keyboard and Xbox controller, I find the controls simply better even as a long-time PC enthusiast.
The movements are somewhat mushy anyway, but they can be better compensated with an analog stick. The advantage of the mouse, being able to look around better, is also not relevant enough in most games to outweigh the more pleasant control of the controller.
Fall Guys is a massive hit and so strong that the influx of players has overloaded the servers. It excites tens of thousands of players, many of whom have certainly had more practice at it. With our tips, you won’t be completely lost as a beginner.
However, the problems at launch have also led to increasingly negative reviews for Fall Guys, alongside some criticism of missing content. The developers have pleaded for mercy due to the technical issues – and it seems hardly anyone is still angry with them for it.
