Valheim already offers content for many hours. But those who only stick to the popular boss fights and “complete” the content will eventually be done – and updates may still take time. MeinMMO shows you 5 ways to get even more fun out of Valheim after the final boss has been defeated.
What are these ideas? Here we present things you can do once you have defeated the final boss Yagluth but do not want to stop playing Valheim.
With these ideas, you should have enough on hand to keep yourself occupied until new content arrives. Next up is the “Hearth and Home” update, which is set to bring new cooking recipes and building options. A little later, the new biome “Fog Lands,” which will likely disgust you, is expected to appear. When the updates are coming is still uncertain.
Who is the final boss anyway? Currently, there are five bosses in Valheim: Eikthyr, The Elder, Bonemaw, Moder, and Yagluth. Each boss has its own biome, and the last boss Yagluth, a huge skeleton that throws fire, awaits you in the plains.
The boss fights mark points in the story and your progress in the game. Each time a boss is defeated, you can level up, process new materials, and craft better equipment. In our guide, you will learn how to summon and defeat all bosses in Valheim.
But even if you have already defeated Yagluth once or multiple times, there is still plenty to do in Valheim. You just have to know how to keep yourself busy.
1. Install mods and discover more possibilities
What are mods? Modifications (short: “mods”) change the game and can even bring new content. They allow you to play Valheim in completely new ways or obtain certain conveniences.
With some mods, for example, you can grow more plants. Gathering thistles and mushrooms will be a thing of the past. Or do you lack organization in your base and want to sort things out properly for your friends? With a new mod, you can properly label chests.
Other mods play with quite bizarre ideas. You can transform your strong Viking into a thick blob or walk around as a giant. It’s not useful – but it provides a laugh here and there.
How do I install mods? Installing mods in Valheim is not quite easy. We recommend using a mod manager like Vortex from NexusMods. In our guide, we explain to you in detail how to install mods and which ones you should try out.
2. Build your own town – Or other projects
Building is one of the favorite pastimes of many players, sometimes involving hundreds of hours for just a single project. Even if the base serves more as a “hub” to which you keep returning, much can be made from it.
For example, one player built a picturesque little village instead of just a hut, which many find appealing. With various small houses, a large great hall, and a village center, this little hamlet fits well into the surroundings. We asked him in an interview how to properly tackle such a project:

3. Play Valheim again, but as a real RPG
The mods mentioned above can change individual features of Valheim or add new ones. You can also combine mods and thus turn Valheim into a completely new game.
A collection of mods, for example, transforms the survival game into a real role-playing game, loosely based on inspirations like The Elder Scrolls or WoW. With the right combination of mods, you will get:
- six classes with unique abilities
- new recipes for boss weapons
- quests and improved loot
- NPCs that give you tasks and sell new items
- real companions, not just tamed animals

4. Explore the whole map or find cool seeds
Exploration is another essential pillar of survival games alongside building, combat, and survival. And Valheim offers a lot to explore. The maps are so huge that even after 50 hours in the game, only about 5% are revealed.
Currently, only five of the eight biomes already available in the game are truly playable. The others are still empty or non-functional, but you can still look around there.
Revealing the whole map can take a while, and you may discover one or the other secret. You probably already know that the All-Father Odin is watching you, but maybe you will find other gods or discover what you can do in the new biomes.
Alternatively, you can create new worlds or try different “seeds.” A seed determines how your world looks. It is the basis for how the map is created and where you find which bosses, resources, and biomes.
When experimenting with seeds, you might find new, cool worlds or especially useful seeds for beginners or farming. In our list, you will also find the best seeds for Valheim.
5. Cause mischief and find new, crazy ideas
The features – and glitches – of Valheim allow for some interesting opportunities that players have been exploring since release. They have made fun by exploiting faulty behavior of enemies or unplanned interactions of items.
From such attempts, some strange and also funny ideas have emerged that you can replicate:
- Use a harpoon and spear friends, to launch them with a catapult
- Build a roller coaster for ships and use the sea as a trampoline
- Or stun one of Valheim’s deadliest enemies and ride it
Especially the harpoon could be quite entertaining or even yield useful results, such as the ability to water ski and transport items. Just try it out and find ways to use things as they were not intended – mischief will definitely provide some entertainment. You just have to hope that such “bugs” are not fixed.
You can also think up your own challenges and play Valheim in a completely different way than intended. One player has, for example, taken on a boss challenge to only kill the final boss. Whether that works remains to be seen.
