Call of Duty: Vanguard tempts all CoD fans and offers you a long, free weekend just 2 weeks after the release. The perfect opportunity to reactivate team mates and thoroughly test the new CoD.
From Thursday evening to Monday evening, you have full access to the multiplayer mode of Vanguard, and we will show you what you should definitely try to get a good impression of the new CoD. The most important information about the free weekend can be found here:
Patrol – Strong Addition to the Standard Modes
What is it about? What was the “VIP mode” in the predecessor Black Ops Cold War is called “Patrol” in Vanguard. The mode adds another option to the usual standard modes, and the developers at Sledgehammer Games have proven to have a good nose – because Patrol is really good.
It is a variant of the “Domination” mode, but instead of changing points to capture, you have to hold a point that moves across the map throughout the match.
This brings an interesting dynamic to the game but also leads to real bloodbaths when a player with the right line of sight clears the entire point.
The usual modes like Team Deathmatch, Domination, or Search & Destroy are also in the game along with 17 maps and nearly 40 weapons. An overview of the release content can be found here:
Champions Hill – Fight for Every Life
What is it about? The popular firefights with 2vs2 or 3vs3 battles make way for the “Champions Hill” mode. Instead of simple skirmishes against other teams, these new firefights are always structured like a tournament.
You play against 7 teams, and each round lasts a few minutes. Each team member has 6 lives, and with each death, you lose one of your lives. You repeatedly play against other teams until only 2 teams have lives left and it comes to the finale.
You acquire weapons and equipment through a cash system – allowing you to upgrade your weapon at any time and acquire perks, killstreaks, or other enhancements during regular purchase breaks.
These tournaments provide an entertaining opportunity for dedicated team players to synchronize better with each other. Currently, even solo fighters can wreak havoc on the Champions Hill, as there is a mode for solo players, duos, and trios (as of November 18, 11 AM).
Blitz Pacing – Normal Modes Completely Different
What is it about? The “Combat Pacing” is one of the major innovations in Vanguard and brings momentum to the normal game modes. You can determine how many soldiers are on the battlefields. There are 3 total pacings:
- Tactical
- Assault
- Blitz
“Tactical” is your normal CoD experience with 6vs6 players – however, Vanguard also offers large maps that can be played with more people in tactical pacing. With Blitz, you get the maximum number of players possible on the maps.
This leads to a completely different game feel and gives you little breathing room even on the larger maps. An interesting approach that especially players should celebrate, who have found the maps too large in recent years. You can find more about the innovations of Vanguard here:
Ship Haus 24/7 – Chaos with Announcement
What is it about? The small map “Shipment” arrived in the game on November 17 through an update and delivers you a refreshingly exhilarating experience.
Already in earlier parts of the CoD series, the chaos map was considered one of the best maps to quickly gather levels and kills, and in Vanguard, you get the full dose of action and confusion.
Additionally, the crazy map shares the 24/7 rotation with the new chaos map “The House.” Here there are more walls, but no verticality. Moreover, the map tells an interesting story – an extensive visit to this playlist for a dozen dizzying matches is always worth the recommendation.
The MP40 – OP Without Regard for Losses
What is it about? The first submachine gun that you can use through your loadouts is also a nasty OP-injection. The MP40 has a setup that allows close combat kills with just 2 shots:
Other 2-shot setups have already been fixed, but the MP40 continues to fight against a good weapon balance and remains one of the OP options in the game alongside some shotgun setups. We show you an OP setup of the MP40 here:
