The new expansion of World of Warcraft is starting soon. MeinMMO will tell you what you should definitely get done before the new addon.
Much faster than many expected, we are moving towards the next expansion of World of Warcraft. With “The War Within”, we are diving deep towards the core of Azeroth. The aim is to thwart the plans of Xal’atath and once again save the world from doom.
As usual, it is a wise choice to prepare in advance for the new addon. Because with a little planning, you can save a lot of time and frustration later and instead peacefully dive into the new expansion.
Therefore, we will show you some things that you should have done before the launch of The War Within on August 27, 2024 (Early Access).
1. Level secondary characters to level 70
In The War Within, it will be easier than ever to quickly level up secondary characters and make them relevant for endgame. This is possible due to various advantages that greatly assist secondary characters.
On one hand, reputation in The War Within is account-wide for the new factions. If your main character has already achieved many levels of glory with the new factions and earned some initial rewards, then your twinks also already have this glory level and can directly access the benefits.
While you are tackling dungeons or engaged in other endgame activities, you will occasionally find items that are bound to your “war party”. These items have an item level that is somewhat lower, but can be passed on to your other characters. This way, you can equip secondary characters with relevant endgame gear while playing a completely different character.
Lastly, you can easily send various important resources back and forth between your characters. This will no longer be complicated through various vendors but will instead be comfortably done through a new menu. Want to play a different character? Then you can almost transfer all earned relevant resources simply to the new character.
Or in other words: It has never been easier in the history of World of Warcraft to play multiple characters at a high level simultaneously or to switch your “main” character at will.
Therefore, it pays off to have many characters of different classes already at level 70. Leveling is currently incredibly fast. In WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria you can reach level 70 in just a few hours. Professionals even achieve this in an incredible 30 minutes.
If you wait until the release of Pre-Patch 11.0, this time will even be nearly halved again, as the required experience points will be drastically reduced.
So it’s best to set up several characters at level 70 so that you have a wide selection in The War Within and can find the class that perfectly matches you with the new hero talents.
2. Farm gold – because you will need it
For 20 years, there has been a resource in World of Warcraft that has always been important: gold. In many expansions, gold has become more of a luxury resource that is only needed for a few things. Sometimes you need to repair equipment, and sometimes you buy potions or crafting materials at the auction house.
In The War Within, however, you will need a lot of gold if you want to benefit from one of the biggest features: the shared bank of your war party.
In the new expansion, your characters will receive a shared bank (similar to a guild bank) that can be used by all your characters simultaneously. This way, you can transfer crafting materials or strong loot between your characters. This is particularly interesting for crafters. For example, if Hero A puts herbs into the war party bank, Hero B can immediately use them in alchemy without having to move them to their inventory first.
The catch with this feature: it costs a lot of gold.
While you can get the first bank slot for 1,000 gold almost “for free”, the last slot costs a hefty 2,500,000 gold. Each slot provides space for a solid 98 items. So you don’t necessarily have to buy all slots if you can manage with less space. However, since the war party bank will be a permanent feature that remains relevant in future expansions, it doesn’t hurt to unlock the bank completely. You will need 3,126,000 gold for the complete unlocking of the war party bank.
How much gold you need and what you get for it is shown in this list:
| Bank slot number | Slots (total) | Cost per slot | Cost (total) |
| 1 | 98 | 1,000 gold | 1,000 gold |
| 2 | 196 | 25,000 gold | 26,000 gold |
| 3 | 294 | 100,000 gold | 126,000 gold |
| 4 | 392 | 500,000 gold | 626,000 gold |
| 5 | 490 | 2,500,000 gold | 3,126,000 gold |
You can earn gold in various ways, and you basically have free choice.
- Slow but steady by completing world quests with gold rewards. Just check every day which quests offer gold and work through them.
- Riskier are speculations in the auction house. You should only do this with some experience, as it’s possible to lose a lot of gold as well.
Alternatively, you can get creative and offer special services. This could include obtaining special achievements, farming transmog items, or simply running through dungeons.
But offers like “I will level your pets” would also be an option. In this case, you set a flat rate for each pet, have the pets given to you at level 1, and return them after leveling to get your gold.
Finally, you should turn all the “junk” in your bank into gold. Resources from the current expansion will soon no longer be needed by anyone. Convert them into gold now before they become completely worthless.

Every gold piece helps you afford the new bank from which you will benefit for the rest of your WoW career.
