What’s new: As of last night, since August 27, Mega Evolutions are available. You can obtain them through a brand new special research task or through Mega Raids.
At first glance, the mechanics seem a bit complicated, but actually, the functions are quickly explained. Mega Pokémon are significantly stronger, but you have to do a lot to get them.
All information about Mega Evolutions
Mega Raids do not yield Mega Pokémon: You will fight against a Mega Pokémon in a Mega Raid, but in the end, you can only catch the regular Pokémon.
While this is frustrating, at least the Pokémon from the raid can also be shiny. You may not get a Mega Charizard from the raid, but at least possibly a shiny Charizard. By the way, you can evolve that into Mega Shiny Charizard.
Mega Energy is hard to come by: If you have completed the special research “Mega Discovery“, you will receive some Mega Energy for Beedrill from it. It is enough to evolve your Beedrill into a Mega Beedrill.
However, the Mega Energy for Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur is only available from Mega Raids. Depending on how quickly you defeat the Mega Raid boss, you will receive between 30 and 50 Mega Energy.
Currently, there is no other way to obtain Mega Energy. If you want the Mega Evolutions, you should do Raids.
Choose your Mega Evolution wisely: This evolution only lasts for a short time. After 4 hours, the Mega Evolution disappears. You need to decide wisely whether your Mega Evolution is worth it or not.
The energy for the evolution is hard to come by and the evolution lasts only a short time. So only utilize the Mega Evolution when you want to effectively use your Mega Pokémon in a battle.
Mega Evolutions are extremely powerful: When you mega evolve your Pokémon, they become real monsters! Even a Mega Beedrill can reach nearly 3400 CP. Mega Charizard Y even reaches 4455 CP.
Their stats are also extremely strong. A Mega Charizard Y has an attack value of 319 and easily becomes the best fire attacker in the game.
You can use the Mega Pokémon very well in battle. But be aware that you need the right opponents for that. Just because Mega Charizard Y is so strong does not mean it is strong against every monster. Effectiveness also plays a role here.
Mega Evolutions provide a battle bonus: When you fight in a raid with your Mega Pokémon, every player gets a battle bonus. This is comparable to the bonus from friendship or weather.
So not only do you benefit from an extremely strong Pokémon in the raid, but all your teammates do as well, as your opponent can be defeated more quickly.
