The new Season 8 in Fortnite will start soon, hopefully bringing new content that gives the community a fresh breeze. MeinMMO author Christos Tsogos shows you which changes he believes would be well-received by the community.
These are the changes:
Based on my experiences from Season 7 and after researching the Fortnite Subreddit, I have 5 changes that I would like to see in Fortnite for Season 8:
- Selectable group tasks for each quest
- Collectibles like alien artifacts to be farmable solo
- Significant changes to the map
- Greater variety of weapon types and models like in Season 6
- More interaction with the game environment
Selectable group tasks for each quest
What kind of tasks are these? This is an old feature that Fortnite removed since Chapter 2. Here, you select any task in the quest tab and mark it as a group assistance task.
What benefits do they bring? You can freely choose which quest to complete. The progress of this task can now be increased by your teammates. So if you selected a fishing task and a buddy from your squad fishes, his progress will count towards your quest.
This way, you quickly gather your XP and are not forced to tackle annoying quests alone.

How has it been in the other seasons? Since Chapter 2, this feature has been removed. However, Epic Games provided some group assistance tasks in Season 7. That’s at least a step forward, but still not the ultimate solution.
This feature allows players to focus more on the match and shifts the emphasis away from completing annoying tasks.
Make collectibles like ‘alien artifacts’ farmable solo
Which collectibles are these? Alien artifacts were an important resource in Season 7 needed for your alien skin “Kymera.” You needed a total of 300 artifacts to unlock additional styles in the skin’s wardrobe.
In a Reddit thread, the user “u/IRelyOnMemes” points out that Epic Games should also make such collectibles farmable in solo play, as it could cause complications when relying on the help of others.
How does one get the artifacts? Until week 10, there were almost always five artifacts scattered across the map, which could be picked up by any player. A collected artifact counted fivefold. So, in 10 weeks, one could gather a maximum of 250 artifacts.
However, once you picked up the 5 artifacts available for that week, you were left empty-handed but still needed many more artifacts.
Now, there was only a pesky alternative to get the artifacts: cosmic chests. Cosmic chests are only accessible in duo, trio, and team matches.
So far, you can only farm artifacts very limitedly, 25 per week. Those wanting more and the alien skin were forced into group matches.
Is there a catch? Yes, not every player understood the mechanism of the new cosmic chests. Often, other teammates stood next to me and hammered wildly on the wrong crystal surface. This caused frustration for me but also for my teammates, as they never got to loot.
Larger Map Changes
In Chapter 1, back in the old days of Fortnite, large map changes were common after each season ended. Now that Chapter 2 is rolling, one realizes that the map changes have faded.
What changes have there been in Chapter 2 so far?
- Agency at the center of the map
- Flooding of the entire map
- Bounty hunters PIOs like the arena or Mancake’s restaurant
- Zero point sealing sometimes leads to prehistoric environments
- Scattered alien environments
So far, there have been no significant changes to the map. There have been some large new areas like the desert in Season 5, but this map change, like others, was removed with the start of a new season.
To illustrate, here’s a reddit post that compares the changes from Chapter 1 and 2 well:
It is noticeable that the map from Season 7 in Chapter 2 hardly shows any major changes.
Another thing that bothers me in a match in Fortnite are the paths between the individual PoIs. There are very long pathways between them, filled with no cool new sights.
So you wander like a madman to the next area in open ground without cover or interesting side places. This is sadly disappointing, as I have been used to finding something cool or new in every corner from Chapter 1 in Fortnite.
Greater Variety of Weapons Design like in Season 6
As a Fortnite player, I was thrilled by the 6th Season. The main reason was the new and extensive weapon crafting. Using bones, grenades, and fish, it was possible to craft a wide range of weapons. From prehistoric times to the modern age, many weapons were represented, adding variety to gunfights.

What about Season 7? The weapon crafting has been scaled back. Now you can upgrade weapons with screws into a different model or convert them into futuristic weapons with alien nanites, but that’s it.
Wishes for Season 8? I hope for a broader weapon palette that ensures more variety in Fortnite. Perhaps it would also be good to remove the popular assault rifle or shotgun from the game, to show players other ways of weapon use.
Epic Games was able to show with Season 6 that they have the skills to develop other weapons, so why not in Season 8?
More interaction with the game environment, picking up bushes, etc.
Another way to make everyday life in Fortnite more diverse would be to let players interact more with objects in the map.
What interactions would be possible? Reddit user u/Rifted-06 mentioned (via reddit) in a thread that it would be great to be able to pick up bushes. Just like the former item of running around as a bush for camouflage, it would be a dream for him.
But you could also take burning wood from campfires and throw it like a “torch” onto buildings to burn everything down.
It may also be possible to climb trees or even hide in fake trees. There are many ideas that could be implemented. It is up to Epic Games how they want to further shape Fortnite.
