No Man’s Land
Far to the west of the area Dun Morogh, accessible only by flying mount (or a lot of swimming stamina), there is a small jetty with a lonely, abandoned hut. No one has lived here for a long time, as everything has decayed and several skeletons decorate the surroundings.
The place was long called “No Man’s Land” and has an important significance in the history of World of Warcraft that few know today.
When someone created a new character in World of Warcraft during the Vanilla times and entered the world, the character appeared exactly at this jetty. This was basically the “spawn point” for all heroes in World of Warcraft, before the respective race intro is played and the journey begins in the starting area.
Whoever placed their character here in the past could regularly see new characters appear for a brief moment and then be teleported to another location.
Today, this place serves no more purpose and is – quite literally – just a lifeless ruin without use. But it is a piece of important history of World of Warcraft.
The Catacombs of Karazhan
Although this place has gained some notoriety in recent months due to new puzzles, it is still considered one of the greatest mysteries of World of Warcraft – and outside the puzzle community, there is virtually no reason to ever visit this place. For the mount Lucid Nightmare, it is a must-visit.
You will find the entrance behind the tower Karazhan, where the opening of a crypt leads deep below the earth.
The Catacombs of Karazhan are not only a creepy labyrinth but also quite a spooky place. The descent begins with the “Well of the Forgotten”, a pit of pure darkness.
The long “Beggar’s Alley” consists of countless graves with mummies and skeletons. The “Tome of the Unrepentant” is a deep pit into which people were presumably thrown. Just like the “Pit of Criminals” with a huge pile of bones and corpses and “The Swamp of Despair”, from which there is no escape.
There is also a large pool filled with water – and plenty of human corpses that are chained and hanging in the water. The place even has the name “The Reversed Sinners”.
When you take all of this into account, the crypt under Karazhan is one of the creepiest and spookiest places in all of World of Warcraft, which has exerted a disturbing fascination for nearly 20 years and can sometimes evoke feelings of unease in certain heroes.
Tirisfal
The area of Tirisfal is one of the oldest in World of Warcraft and is only partially accessible. Nearly a third of the area is made up of mountains that cannot be accessed in the usual way – at least until the era of flying mounts.
If you head all the way west in Tirisfal, you enter the Whispering Woods. Here you will find a large circle of mushrooms. Numerous wildlife reside in this area, including both healthy deer and corrupted variants.
However, the most striking are the “Drunken Fairy Dragons” – fairy dragons appearing to be in a delightfully tipsy state.
Most of the time, nothing special happens in this place… but at certain intervals, all the fairy dragons gather at the mushroom circle, start casting magic. The rather eerie music of Tirisfal is replaced by cheerful music, and all the animals in the vicinity come together to watch.
After a while, the music piece ends, and all the animals go their separate ways.
