The old PvP system
Anyone who has been a fan of PvP in World of Warcraft since the first days will remember it with belly pains. After a long period in which PvP only took place in the open world – and provided absolutely no rewards – the first proper PvP system was implemented in World of Warcraft. With the battlegrounds “Warsong Gulch”, “Arathi Basin”, and “Alterac Valley”, one could let loose the conflict between Horde and Alliance.

But few remember the endless grind that went along with it. The PvP system was simply designed: Those with a high PvP rank could buy PvP gear. A high rank was achieved by accumulating honor points – primarily from kills. Actual skill played only a minor role; it was solely about the number of honor points.
Anyone who actually wanted to have rank 14 – the highest rank at the time – had to play World of Warcraft day and night for at least 4 weeks, at least 12-16 hours a day. Many players shared their accounts with others to “play” in shifts and ultimately carry the strongest weapons. For ordinary players with school, work, or a serious degree, this goal was unattainable – unless vacation, holidays, or semester end was around the corner.
Endless grinding had nothing to do with fun. But the satisfaction when you finally received that coveted equipment was all the greater.
What “cool” things from classic World of Warcraft do you still remember?
A little “Classic” might soon return – the dragons are coming back as world bosses in the game!
