Some games are hard to put into words. “The Stanley Parable” is one of those games. You play as Stanley, who sits in his office and diligently goes about his tasks every day, as a proper employee should.
At least that is what the narrator of the story tells you, as he instructs you on what Stanley needs to do to successfully get through his workday. However, eventually the question inevitably arises:
Do I actually have to do what the narrator is asking of me?
If the narrator says that “Stanley confidently strides through the right door as he does every day” – what happens if you take control and stubbornly go through the left door?
The story is a crazy psycho trip that you really shouldn’t know too much about in advance. If you want to embark on a gaming experience that does not fit the usual genres at all, you should urgently buy The Stanley Parable. Or maybe don’t buy it urgently. Because why should you listen to what someone says?
The game, by the way, has one of the worst achievements ever. To unlock it, you must not start the game for 8 years after you’ve completed it. Who among you has that willpower?
