Raids and big boss fights don’t have to be the endgame in Final Fantasy XIV. Many players also like to relax with other activities. We’ve summarized 5 of them for you here.
These activities are: FFXIV is known for offering additional content besides the “classic endgame” with raid bosses and gear progression that can be completed at level 90.
A whole range of activities are designed for players to relax, as they do not involve fights. On the contrary, you often cannot draw your sword, staff, or bow at all.
Instead, you can calmly gather and craft items or engage in other tasks that help you progress, for example, by assisting you in making money or offering rare rewards.
Crafting
This is how crafting works: FFXIV takes its crafters very seriously. Unlike many other MMORPGs, where life skills are often treated as secondary, crafters here are considered their own classes.
And accordingly, they have everything that normally comes with classes:
- There is special crafter-specific gear that boosts the necessary stats
- Crafters have their own materia and food necessary to craft recipes with very high levels
- They have their own skills and can execute combos to increase the quality of their items
- And of course, they also have their own “endgame” in the form of collectible pieces, i.e., particularly high-quality items that can be exchanged for in-game currency
There are a total of 8 crafter classes in FFXIV, specializing in different areas like blacksmithing, weaving, or alchemy. They function just like other jobs in FFXIV: You equip the appropriate weapon, and you’re good to go. Each of them can be leveled up to 90 to craft increasingly higher recipes.
The pleasant thing about crafting is that you can do it relaxed “on the side”. You sit somewhere in the corner or near the market board with your crafting utensils and leisurely work through the materials.
At the same time, you can purposefully work towards making money at the market board with the crafted items while relaxing watching a series on Netflix or Disney.
Gathering
This is how gathering works: Collecting the materials needed for crafting is also an important matter in FFXIV. Gatherers are independent classes that can be leveled and equipped, each having their own rotation.
The foundation for this is simple: Grab a pickaxe or an axe and go out into the wild to look for and harvest natural resources. Each area has its own resources that can only be found there, which you need to harvest to level up the classes.
The harvesting points for the resources do not have to be shared with anyone. You can choose a point at any time and harvest the materials as long as you want.
These materials can, for example, be used to level up your crafter classes or alternatively sold at the market board. Even if they cost little, substantial sums can add up due to the large quantities you gather.
Gathering is also a completely relaxed activity in FFXIV. You are invisible to the monsters in the zones and can peacefully circle between the individual harvesting points while sitting in Discord with your friends or maybe watching a stream.
Furnishing the House
This is the housing of FFXIV: While acquiring houses in FFXIV can be a nerve-wracking activity due to scarcity, their furnishing and maintenance is extremely relaxed.
After 10 years since the release, there is a huge amount of various types of furniture in the MMORPG for both interior design and gardens. Players therefore spend hours furnishing their virtual home according to their preferences.
Here too, you don’t have to hurry or fight. You can take your time looking at the individual items while placing them, trying different colors, or discussing the placement with your friends or guildmates.
One big problem, of course, is availability. Houses and apartments are very scarce and hard to come by. But aspiring interior designers can alternatively apply to guilds that have houses and, with the permission of the leaders, unleash their creativity there.
Eorzea Incognita
These are the vistas: For the explorers and wanderers among you, FFXIV has the activity Eorzea Incognita. It consists of a long list of viewpoints scattered throughout the world that you need to visit.
The points are marked with a glowing blue orb next to which you must perform an emote to receive an entry in the notebook you get from the NPC Naoh Gamduhia in New Gridania.
In the notebook, you will also find clues about each viewpoint’s location and conditions. Not all places can simply be visited. In some cases, certain weather conditions must prevail to receive an entry in the book.
Generally, you can calmly move from one vista to another and gradually complete your book. The viewpoints are all located in the open world and not in dungeons, so you can actually leave your swords and bows at home.
As a reward, you will receive rare companions or new titles through achievements at the end.
Great Voyage
This is the great voyage: What would an MMORPG be without fishing? This small side activity has become almost as much a part of the genre as raiding.
In FFXIV, besides “normal” fishing, which is very relaxed, there is the instanced content “Great Voyage”. To participate, players board a ship and embark on a one-hour journey through the open waters of Eorzea.
Along the way, they enjoy the beautiful scenery and can spend an hour completely relaxed fishing. You’ll be sailing on a ship with up to 24 other players, which travels different routes every day.
During the voyage, you earn a certain amount of points for each catch and can multiply these points under special circumstances and with some luck.
As a reward, you can earn a mount and various rare companions that you can either catch yourself or earn through achievements.
Bonus: Screenshots and Photo Mode
This is /gpose: Hardly any major game is released today without a photo mode. In Ghost of Tsushima, Demon’s Souls, or even the new MMORPG Lost Ark, players take the most beautiful screenshots and share them with their fellow players.
FFXIV also has such a mode, around which a large community has formed. With the simple chat command /gpose, you switch to photo view, where you can:
- Rotate the perspective freely,
- activate different filters,
- perform emotes,
- hide other players or NPCs,
- add new light sources, and do many other things
Players take pictures of their characters, NPCs, or various landscapes in the game and participate in competitions organized by the community.
The /gpose is often also combined with projections, also called glamour, referring to the assembly of different stylish outfits for the player character.
It is no wonder that there is a saying among FFXIV players: Glamour is the true endgame.
