War Thunder – End of the Beta!
War Thunder began in 2012 as a competitor to Wargaming’s World of Warplanes and has since grown continually. Nowadays, alongside countless aircraft, there are also tons of tanks with which you can drive around and shoot on the ground. Unlike World of Tanks, which is focused on arcade action, War Thunder emphasizes realism. Even the easy mode has more simulation aspects than Wargaming’s titles, and the simulation modes are only for professionals.
Japanese end beta
At the end of December Patch 1.65 brought the tank forces of the Japanese army into the game and thus ended the beta status of the game. Once the planes of the Emperor became indispensable in air battles, fans of the Japanese army can now also drive around with olive green tanks on the ground. In this, you will get not only World War II models but also models post-war.
Japan also needed entirely new tanks for its new army as the vehicles borrowed from the USA were too large for the generally smaller Japanese soldiers and the high weight of US tanks overwhelmed Japan’s bridges. This also introduces a new gameplay feature in War Thunder: hydropneumatic suspension. As a result, tanks like the Type 73 can spontaneously change the ground clearance and tilt angle of the hull.
New maps and ships on the horizon
As Patch 1.65 has all previously included nations having both tanks and aircraft, War Thunder is now considered “finished” and no longer just a beta game for Gaijin Entertainment. Now only ships are missing, and War Thunder would be on par with the three Wargaming titles World of Tanks, Warships and Warplanes.
However, we should not expect ships in January, as the associated update is just starting its pre-beta. However, there are already new maps. The deserted factory looks like it was imported straight from Russia, and the “38th parallel” refers to the notorious border between North and South Korea.
So if you want to play a tactically demanding and realism-oriented military MMO, you should take a look at the “new” War Thunder. Here is the link to register. It costs nothing!
