Battlerite
Imagine playing a MOBA like LoL or Heroes of the Storm, but instead of first painstakingly leveling up the character, earning gold, developing a strategy, and then obtaining the right upgrades, the action starts right away! Such a game is Battlerite. In the PvP arena brawler, you only play for about 2 minutes, and none of those 120 seconds are boring! Rather, Battlerite immediately throws you into the arena where the opponents are already waiting.
Skill wins!
What follows is a vigorous brawl where your skills and abilities are paramount: Because you start with a fully equipped hero. Only before each round can you select a passive ability that expands your existing skills. Everything you need for victory your hero has from the beginning of the game.
There are no minions, no towers, no creeps, and no gold – but skill shots! Therefore, soon there is a colorful chaos in the arena when both teams (there are 2v2 and 3v3 game modes) throw their skills at each other.
If no decision is made after a few minutes — for example, if one side is just sneaking around and avoiding confrontation — the outer walls move inward, and anyone who flies out of the arena takes massive damage. In the end, only a tiny spot remains and only one can be there!
Hammer Barbarian vs. Fishy Fishy!
The hero selection is — as is customary in MOBAs — quite quirky. Alongside more traditional characters, such as the hefty tank Bakko or the hammer-throwing barbarian Freya, there are also unusual heroes. For instance, the fish-friend Pearl, who summons a big carp with the words “Fishy Fishy” that temporarily swallows your character, costing valuable seconds in the game.
Each character has clear strengths and weaknesses to be cleverly used. Therefore, everyone should have played each hero at least once to counter them or maximize their own performance. The group enhancer Polona requires a completely different team tactic than the strange sheep creature Oldur, who unleashes various control effects with a magical hourglass.
Why you should play more Battlerite
Battlerite is the ideal game for a casual session, as rounds do not last long and immediately ensure action. And if a match goes poorly, it’s not a big deal since each round only takes about 2 minutes. However, Battlerite is not a casual game, as you should have good reflexes and an understanding of teamwork. Otherwise, even a seemingly secure victory can be lost if the opponent turns the tide at the right moment.
Battlerite is currently playable in early access on Steam and is set to be released as a free-to-play title next year.
