What kind of game is this? Mario Kart 8 is the current incarnation of Nintendo’s popular racing game. Recently, there were even 48 new tracks added. The game lets you race with go-karts on tracks from the colorful world of Super Mario. Various characters from the Mario universe are available for selection, including Mario, Yoshi, and the hefty Bowser.
To enrich the gameplay, there are various items you can collect. These give you various power-ups or special skills. For instance, you can gain speed boosts or throw turtle shells at your opponents. Other items will drop banana peels that function like landmines.
You can play Mario Kart 8 locally or over the internet. The game is particularly popular among top German streamers.
Why is this game dangerous for relationships? Mario Kart has been considered one of the games that test friendships and relationships for years. The items in the game are often extremely unfair and provide random advantages that can be very frustrating.
At the forefront is the dreaded “blue shell”. This refers to one of the iconic turtle shells which, depending on its color, acts as a more or less effective projectile.
Whereas the green shell flies straight and hits are mostly by chance, the blue shell specifically targets the player currently in the lead.
The frustration and anger one feels after skillfully and laboriously reaching the top of the round, only to be hit by one of these shells and lose everything, is indescribable.
This is especially true if the player throwing the shell is far behind and not doing well at all. It’s an explicitly mean and nasty weapon for players who just can’t stand others winning.
The other items in the game are not much better, as they primarily serve to ruin the race for opponents and destroy any sense of achievement. Thus, Mario Kart is despite its cute aesthetics a game that can lead to significant frustration and anger.
What should be considered? Always keep in mind that Mario Kart is an intentionally unfair game designed primarily for chaos and arbitrary acts of vengeance. Play it at your own risk with friends and partners and don’t take it too seriously. Embrace the game as glorious chaos and stop when it becomes too frustrating.
