What kind of game is this? Fall Guys is an unusual battle royale game. Unlike typical shooter representatives of the genre, this game is not about shooting and weapons.
Instead, Fall Guys is set up like a crazy game show akin to Takeshi’s Castle. A horde of little colorful bean characters waddles through bizarre obstacle courses and tries to reach the finish line at the end.
Those who manage this in time advance to the next round. Losers are eliminated. Thus, the number of little wobbling characters decreases, and the last “survivors” battle for a crown and the ultimate victory.
Alternatively, you can also compete in teams for victory. Fall Guys was a hit upon release and has been continuously improved.
Why is this game dangerous for relationships? Despite its colorful appearance, Fall Guys is a cutthroat competitive game. There can only be one winner in the end. This means that in the classical “every man for himself” mode, you also have to eliminate your friends and partners. And here, Fall Guys offers mean opportunities. You can shove other players and, with a bit of luck, send them tumbling into pitfalls or nasty obstacles.
Even meaner is the grabbing mechanic. You can grab other characters and prevent them from progressing. This is especially nasty if you deliberately ruin the opponent’s safe victory and eventually send them tumbling.
However, even in team mode, Fall Guys can cause frustration and anger. The game is incredibly unfair, and the controls are rather imprecise. After all, you are playing wobbly rubber beans, and the controls translate this well.
The combination of imprecise controls and randomly swirling obstacles on the map often leads to your character’s elimination, even with perfectly devised maneuvers. This can be very annoying, especially if you are eliminated because of such things and your partner continues to advance cheerfully by mere chance.
What should be considered? If you want to play Fall Guys as a couple, please don’t take it too seriously. The game is intentionally unfair and imprecise. The essence is to experience some rounds of glorious chaos and to enjoy absurd moments of failure.
