Stardew Valley – The farm simulator
Genre: Simulation | Release: 26.02.2016 | Platform: Nintendo Switch, Android, PS4, Xbox One | Developer: Sickhead Games | USK: From 6 | Model: Buy-To-Play (approx. 14.99 euros)
What kind of game is this? In this simulation game, you inherit your fictional grandfather’s property and move to an old farm on the edge of town. At the beginning, the farm is in poor condition: weeds, trees, and rocks everywhere. So the objective of the game is to restore the farm to a healthy state, cultivate fields, plant trees, and raise animals.
All of this can be done alone or with up to three other players online. Then everyone works together to get the farm back in shape.
At what age is it recommended? Stardew Valley is rated for 6 years and indeed focuses on building a farm. Only in a dark mine can you encounter dangerous creatures.
However, since the game is very complex and also promotes reading competence, it should rather be left to children from 6 to 8 years old. Younger children should play it in the presence of an adult.
Why is the game good for children? Children who have always wanted a farm will find everything they want here. Here you have to use resources cleverly and make sensible decisions for the future of the farm.
This way, children learn playfully how to manage resources, plan projects, and manage their time.
What should parents still pay attention to? Since it is an almost endless game, you should keep a close eye on how long your children play and set clear boundaries. This will also help the kids learn something about time management.
Since Stardew Valley supports a maximum of 4 players, the risk of children running into completely unknown persons is lower. But still, pay attention to who is currently online with your child.
