Charles Smith
Who is he? Charles Smith was born to an African American father and a Native American mother and was one of the newest members of the “Van der Linde” gang. Details of his youth are scarce; he spent his early years with his mother’s tribe.
Eventually, the tribe was driven out by the US Army. Years later, his mother was abducted by the army. What happened to her is unknown. Charles’s father then became depressed and began to drink. Charles subsequently took off at the age of 13.
What happened during the years between his escape and joining the gang remains open. However, Charles distinguished himself as an experienced hunter and survivalist. Players learn this right at the beginning of the game, where Charles teaches Arthur how to hunt with a bow.
While his lonely years in the wild are evident in the community, throughout the story of RDR2, he becomes increasingly active as a member of the group. He frequently helps to find a new camp.
From Lone Wolf to Pack Animal
During the time when Arthur, Dutch, and other gang members were fleeing to Guarma, Charles, alongside Sadie Adler, took responsibility for the remaining group.
He helped to keep the community together. Although he primarily fought for the gang, he never forgot his roots and sought to support a tribe of Native Americans, the Wapiti.
However, all his efforts could not prevent the “Van der Linde” gang from ultimately crumbling and the tribe being nearly wiped out by the US Army. After the last major battle with the government that sealed the fate of the “Van der Linde” gang, Charles disappeared.
Years later, John Marston and Charles met in Saint Denis. Charles later helped build John’s ranch at Beecher’s Hope. Additionally, he, John, and Sadie Adler embarked on a quest for revenge against Micah, who was responsible for the gang’s downfall.
Later, Charles attended John and Abigail’s wedding. After that, he said goodbye and went off on his own again. What became of him is unknown, but he planned to move to Canada to start a family there.
There are many other characters from Red Dead Redemption 2 that could be written about. Which ones would be your favorites? Do you have certain favorite characters? Or do you find a character particularly terrible? Feel free to discuss with us in the comments!
The game is full of sad figures, like an NPC that won the hearts of players.
