Do Exos need to eat?
Exos are humans in robot bodies. Their consciousness actually comes from real humans who were then placed in mechanical constructs through horrible experiments. However, Exos do not need to eat or drink to live – they are mechanical. Nevertheless, it is beneficial if they do so anyway.
Anyone who has seen Exos in Destiny will see a number next to their name – Cayde-6, Banshee-44, etc. These numbers refer to their previously mentioned resets. The reason for their resets is the denial of their artificial body. The consciousness understands that it is in the wrong body and can thus drive the individual to madness.
This is why such Exos were then reset. However, there are also some exceptions where Exos did not need to be reset for many years. So it varies from Exo to Exo.
Why must Guardians not chase their past?
The most well-known rule of Guardians is not to chase their past after being revived. Many Guardians follow this rule and remain true to their new self, but why is this law so important?
If you observe the story of Ana Bray, it has a good reason. She faked her death during the Battle of Twilight to chase her past. In doing so, she neglected her duties as a Guardian and acted selfishly.
When Zavala encountered her, he was disappointed. In the battle against Ghaul and the Red Legion, the Vanguard could have used every Guardian. Ana probably wouldn’t have made a difference, but if every Guardian started to investigate their past, there would be no one left to protect the Last City and the Traveler.
For this reason, it is important that every Guardian lives in the future and creates a new self rather than living in the past, which has no meaning anymore.
