Devil May Cry
Video game adaptations have long been no longer a guarantee of trash. With series like Fallout, Arcane, or The Last of Us, it has been shown that they can work without gameplay. In 2025, Devil May Cry also proved this. The animated series by Adi Shankar and the South Korean studio Mir does not adapt a part of the games 100%, but it doesn’t have to.
Dante’s cheeky remarks work perfectly as a series and lighten up the universe full of demons and secret government organizations quite a bit. The action is also convincing, relying on weapons and transformations that fans of the game series might recognize.
The biggest surprise, however, was: There was a really strong villain, who not only stands out with his motives and design, but also works better as a character than many other adversaries.
The first season also seemed quite successful, as a sequel is already scheduled for 2026. The games themselves also likely benefited from the Netflix series.
