Do you still think Conan Exiles is really cool but have nothing to do anymore? We show you 5 mods that can turn Conan Exiles into a completely different game. A quick installation is all it takes.
What are these mods? The modifications presented here make either minor or fundamental changes to Conan Exiles. With each of these mods, however, you can explore new facets of the game or entire worlds that it usually does not offer.
With the mods, you cannot play on official servers. For some of them, it is best to have your own private game or server. How to acquire and set up a server is explained here.
All the mods selected by us are extremely popular and have ratings between four and five stars. Helpful mods for an easier gameplay can be found here.
How do I install the mods? All modifications are only available for the PC version of the game via Steam. Here, simply subscribing to the relevant mod in the Steam Workshop is sufficient. The download and updates will be handled automatically with default settings.
You then just have to activate the mod in the main menu under the “Mods” section (from “available mods” to “selected mods”). We provide a link to each mod in its respective section.
1. Shadows of Skelos – Extended
What type of mod is this? The mod “Shadows of Skelos – Extended” was created as an extension for the German-speaking roleplay server “Shadows of Skelos” in Conan Exiles. However, the mod is now only available in English. As the author revealed to us, it was switched to English after a database error and due to the growing number of subscribers from its originally bilingual development.
If you want, you can create your own RP server with this and a number of other mods. A link to the community’s Discord servers and further assistance is available on Steam (link further down).
What does it change? “Shadows of Skelos” adds over 900 new items, new talents, and recipe books to the game. This also includes new workbenches for crafting the new items.
Who is the mod for? The mod is primarily aimed at roleplayers, i.e., players who want to embody a character. Many players with the same interests meet on “Shadows of Skelos.”
Those who want to play Conan Exiles with the “Shadows of Skelos” mod should be open to it. In conversation, an admin of the server revealed to us that the community is happy to help newcomers. Interested players can see if they feel comfortable.
Even PvE players like to use the mod to make dungeons more atmospheric.
Usually, anyone who disturbs others during roleplay will quickly be warned or even removed. For private servers, the mod only adds new items, which are mostly cosmetic in nature. If you are only interested in gameplay elements like building and combat, the mod is only worth it to a limited extent.

2. The Age of Calamitous
What type of mod is this? “The Age of Calamitous” is a kind of expansion or add-on for Conan Exiles, but without any cost. It utilizes Conan Exiles to bring players into the world of Age of Calamitous.
“The Age of Calamitous” adds an entire adventure to Conan Exiles that you can play. The mod is similar to a total conversion and offers completely new things to explore. There is even a single player expansion as an additional mod.
What does it change? The mod changes a whole range of things. The author has published a list of some of these:
- Six playable factions
- More options for character customization
- New items like decorations, weapons, and more
- New crafting stations, talents, and recipes
- Level cap: 120
The factions include kingdoms of humans, elves, or bred hybrid races. The YouTuber Ragnarrock offers numerous guides to “Age of Calamitous” on his channel.
Who is the mod for? In “The Age of Calamitous,” the focus is more on discovering and exploring new things. It adds a bit more RPG elements to Conan Exiles.
The standard mod is mainly suitable for players who want to fight against new enemies together with friends and develop their characters. In the single player mod, the difficulty is reduced, so everything works solo as well.

3. Emberlight
What type of mod is this? “Emberlight” adds new roleplay elements to the game, similar to “Shadows of Skelos.” However, the focus here is more on depth, consequence, and a certain degree of realism.
The mod ensures that while you have to take care of more things, it also offers you a significantly broader range of activities to pursue.
What does it change? You can find the detailed list of changes from “Emberlight” on Steam (link below). In general, it brings:
- An expanded farming system with more plants
- An expanded pet system with domesticated animals
- Production of wine, silk, food, and more
- Options for aesthetic customization of characters and slaves
- New items like weapons and armor
Who is the mod for? Like “Shadows of Skelos,” this mod is aimed more at players who want to embody a role. However, “Emberlight” also places great importance on consequence.
If you choose the expanded variant “Lament,” all decisions suddenly have greater significance and a death leads to certain disadvantages. In general, the mod makes Conan Exiles a bit rougher than it already is.

4. Sorcery and Superclasses
What type of mod is this? The mod “Sorcery and Superclasses” does not change much in the game overall. However, it expands the character system with special classes and a magic feature. Magic was also once planned officially by the developers, but the idea is currently on hold. At least there are already mounts.
It allows you to choose special classes by completing certain endgame quests and acquiring special items. Once you have selected a class, you are bound to it. If you want to try a new one, you must create a new character.
What does it change? “Sorcery and Superclasses” expands the game with several classes to choose from:
- Sorcerer
- Child of Akivasha
- Slayer
- Guardian
- Hykirian Sureshot
- Mitra Cleric
Some classes are still under development and it is possible that more will come. The mod also provides you with new weapons.
Who is the mod for? “Sorcery and Superclasses” is especially suitable for players who like to explore archetypes in role-playing games and settle into specific play styles. The individual classes change the gameplay feel and style, but not the game itself.
It is particularly suitable for players who want to face dangers together with friends or in a group. You can build a party like in a role-playing game or MMORPG from the various classes and conquer dungeons.

5. Roleplay
What type of mod is this? “Roleplay” turns Conan Exiles into its own interpretation of the famous and popular pen-and-paper classic “Dungeons and Dragons.” It brings new features into the game and refocuses on player interactions.
The mod does not necessarily change much about the game itself, except for the presence of new abilities and character sheets. The latter show how well your character masters certain things and allow you to distribute skill and attribute points.
Note: The author has not communicated since September 2019, and the mod is currently not under further development. However, many players still use it.
What does it change? The mod brings:
- A D&D character sheet with classes, attributes, and skills for rolling dice (standard with a D20)
- Lockpicking and breaking down doors as features
- Pickpocketing
- Over 100 new emotes
- A postal system in the game
- Speech bubbles for written texts
- A “Consent Sheet” that shows what type of roleplay you are interested in
Who is the mod for? Similar to “Shadows of Skelos,” “Roleplay” is only suitable for roleplayers or those interested in it. Since much of it is based on “Dungeons and Dragons,” especially fans of the series should feel comfortable here.
However, “Roleplay” also introduces features to the game that “Shadows of Skelos” does not offer. The mod is more suitable for the more traditional type of roleplay (like pen-and-paper).
