What kind of list is this? In this list, we specifically searched for MMOs where drugs play a role. The overview is primarily meant to entertain but also offers the opportunity to see how these substances are used and portrayed in the various titles.
In almost all MMOs and MMORPGs, one finds alcohol, often associated with a blurring or wobbling screen. Others use “stimulants” as a sort of health potion. However, some games go even further and introduce harder drugs into the gameplay.

What kind of game is this? GTA Online is the multiplayer mode for Grand Theft Auto V. You create a character and enter the vast and open game world. Along the way, Lester, a special friend, and other characters that you know from the story of GTA 5 and the entire GTA universe invite you to new missions.
Through the missions, you earn money, buy weapons, buildings, and vehicles, to earn even more money. The goal is to create as many sources of income as possible so that you can afford new content like cars, properties, and weapons that Rockstar regularly adds to GTA 5 Online.

What role do drugs play? In GTA Online, you frequently encounter characters who smoke marijuana, drink alcohol, or pump themselves up with steroids.
But you also come into contact with drugs yourself. You can set up your own marijuana farm and sell the weed. Other drugs can also be produced, like meth in a dedicated lab. You can even take on the role of a CEO for a huge drug business and even hire other players as couriers.
However, you cannot sell drugs to other players. Instead, you can invite other players to your apartment and offer them the bong that sits on the coffee table. They can then consume weed with you or raid your alcohol supply.
Consumption has effects on your character in the game. If you have had too much to drink, the character staggers uncontrollably in the game. While driving, the steering wheel is often yanked. To unlock a secret mission, you even need to be drunk.

How are drugs portrayed? GTA Online takes a rather open approach to the subject. You can theoretically build a drug empire and even earn a lot of in-game money from it. If the drug farm gets discovered and stormed by the police, you lose your drug product and have to start production over again.
