League of Legends
Genre: MOBA | Developer: Riot Games | Platform: PC | Release Date: October 28, 2009 | Model: Free-to-Play
What kind of game is this? League of Legends is one of the most successful PC games worldwide. In this MOBA, each team consists of 5 players from two different teams, trying to take down the enemy’s base. The first team to succeed wins the match.
On the way, players must earn gold by killing minions, towers, jungle creatures, or enemy players. With the gold, they can buy items to become stronger.
This relatively simple format, combined with competitive elements, has made LoL a huge game in esports. The world championships are occasionally watched by more people than the NBA finals or the Super Bowl.
The highlights of League of Legends
The main highlight of LoL is the relatively simple gameplay, which is continually refreshed with new champions and minor changes every season.

- The gameplay remains the same but offers plenty of options for self-improvement
- Currently, there are over 150 champions available that you should at least roughly know as a good player
- There is a variety of items to build the perfect setup for you
- The ranking system provides a constant drive to improve
- There are additional modes around the 5v5, such as ARAM or TFT
Why you should play LoL in January
On January 4th, the new patch 12.1 will be released in League of Legends. It makes some major changes to the champion Janna and especially the summoner spell teleport. Additionally, there are some new skins.
However, the most important thing is that with the patch, season 12 officially starts. This is especially good news for esports fans, as the American LCS will begin its season on January 10. The European LEC will continue on January 14.
With the new season, the so-called “Challenges” will also be introduced. This is a new progression system. More on this here:
