The year 2021 has begun, and in January we at MeinMMO would like to introduce you to 5 MMOs and online games again. In all of them you can expect something exciting in the coming 31 days.
What games are these? The selected games are online games that you can experience together with friends or total strangers. Each selected title will receive an update in January or otherwise offer something special, which makes playing worth it this month.
The selected titles on the following pages have been mixed up, and the order does not reflect any ranking. On the last page, there is also a small outlook on what else happens in January.

What is Escape from Tarkov? Escape from Tarkov is an online shooter for PC that wants to convince with many tactical elements and intense gameplay.
You start around the titular city of Tarkov, gathering weapons and equipment. It’s always a matter of life and death. If you die, you lose your entire equipment.
Escape from Tarkov went into Early Access in 2018 and is one of the games that became really successful through Twitch.

The game is described as a realistic first-person simulator with some MMO features for hardcore players. Survival and PvE elements are also included, such as private hideouts or boss enemies.
The mix and realism are the highlights of the shooter. A major patch in July 2020 introduced several innovations, including:
- Enlarged custom maps
- A new boss
- New quests
- Improved enemy AI
Why should you play Escape from Tarkov in January?
During the Christmas season, patch 0.12.9 was released. This came with a complete wipe, resetting players’ progress to 0. Additionally, one of the oldest maps – Woods – has been revamped and is now twice as large.

This wipe and the update have indeed garnered a lot of attention, which is evident on the streaming platform Twitch. There, the shooter suddenly became the most viewed game after Christmas. Besides well-known streamers like summit1g and xQc, especially the Australian Pestily benefited from the hype.
