What is World of Warcraft? In WoW, you are dealing with the probably most successful and popular MMORPG in the Western world. Blizzard managed to climb to the throne of the genre with a focus on the most enjoyable aspects of an MMORPG. In the game, quests and adventures with friends in the fantasy world of Azeroth take center stage.
What does the Classic Server offer? The Vanilla server WoW Classic aims to bring back the player experience of the past, without the many changes that the MMORPG has undergone over the years.
- You explore “only” the continents of Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms
- You create your hero from the classes Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes for the Alliance as well as Orcs, Trolls, Taurens, and Undead for the Horde
- You gain access to more talents and character stats
- To cast spells, you need ingredients like portal runes for portals
- You only level up to 60
- The Classic version requires a subscription
When did the Classic Server launch? So far, the Classic Server has not yet launched, making WoW a special case in this list. The release is scheduled for summer 2019. In November, however, a demo was playable for a short time.
Who is suited to play on the Classic Server? For years, fans of World of Warcraft have been calling for the chance to experience a “Vanilla” version of the online role-playing game. This was more challenging and focused more on group content. Therefore, the server is particularly suitable for those who want to experience WoW as it was at release.
If you want to play an MMORPG from the very beginning, perhaps as it was originally, then you should look at the Classic or Legacy servers.
However, a Classic server is not a guarantee of success. The Classic server of the MMORPG Echo of Soul had to be shut down last year because the technical support for both versions could not be maintained, and the “new” version was better received by the players.
