RuneScape
Release: 01/04/2001 or 10/14/2020 | Platform: PC, Mac, Android, iOS | Setting: Fantasy, Oldschool | Developer, Publisher: Jagex Ltd | Payment Model: Free2Play
What kind of game is this? RuneScape exists in both the old-school version and a more recent one from 2020. Both are free to play on Steam. Originally released in 2001, the MMORPG is one of the oldest MMOs still being played.
The MMORPG places great value on player freedom in both versions. You can freely explore the large, ever-changing world and choose your play style. In addition to combat, there are some housing options – you can even own your own harbor or run a farm.
How does it work without classes? Part of player freedom naturally includes liberation from defined classes. In RuneScape, you can choose between ranged combat, melee, and magic.
Additionally, there are 28 different skills to master, including woodcutting, smithing, mysticism, and runecrafting. You decide what your character learns and what does not.
Who is it suitable for? RuneScape is worthwhile for you if you …
- want to do something different in MMORPGs apart from fighting
- want to indulge in nostalgia
- like sandbox MMORPGs
- enjoy interacting with other players
Although the game is Free2Play, there is a subscription that you can sign up for. Recently, the developers raised the prices.
