Does Clair Obscur Expedition 33 really have so many plot holes that don’t make sense? We take a look at what the accusations are about.
The story of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is quite complex. So complex that details often get lost, leading to numerous discussions in the community or false assumptions. Today, we take a look at the most common accusations of “plot holes” – supposedly illogical points in the story. The accusation is that the story does not make sense here or that characters act illogically – merely to advance the plot.

Why didn’t Maelle revive Gustave directly?
The accusation here is: After Maelle regains her powers as a painter and her memory, she also gains the ability to create things and people. Therefore, one of her first actions is to repaint Lune and Sciel, creating them as they were before. Why didn’t she just revive Gustave as well?
The simple answer is: Because Gustave was killed by the (painted) Renoir. Only if characters are killed by Nevronen does their Chroma (and thus their “essence”) remain in the corpse. For this reason, Clea created the Nevronen so that the Chroma cannot flow back to Renoir and Aline.
However, Gustave is killed by the painted Renoir. The latter is not a Nevrone and clearly sides with the painter Aline, whom he tries to protect. Therefore, Gustave’s Chroma has long since disappeared, as many weeks have passed since the incident. It has likely returned to Aline or Renoir and has already been used to create new creatures on the canvas.
Thus, Gustave is only revived in one of the two endings when Alicia remains alone on the canvas and has basically all Chroma at her disposal. Whether she entirely repaints Gustave or can restore him with his old essence is not entirely clear.
