What is the anime about? Neon Genesis is set in an alternate future of the world. After a massive explosion devastates the Earth, it is regularly attacked by “Angels.” To defend against them, large combat robots called “EVA” are used, which must be synchronized with the minds of the pilots, a feat only possible for a few teenagers. The protagonist, Shinji, is one of these pilots and has to come to terms with the responsibilities and the slowly unraveling machinations behind the Angels, the EVAs, and his family.
Anyone who has seen the original mentioned here and wants more should also check out the newer films. They depict a continued and adapted storyline and reflect more modern animation styles.
Why should you see the anime? Neon Genesis Evangelion is still one of the most profound anime almost 30 years after its release, with a gripping story and complex characters that reveal new layers even upon a second or third viewing.

What is the anime about? Cowboy Bebop is set in the future, in the year 2071. Humanity has expanded to numerous planets and spread out over space. However, these worlds are plagued by crime and corruption. Therefore, bounty hunters are becoming increasingly important. These so-called “cowboys” are employed everywhere to resolve conflicts – not always in accordance with the law. The series follows the two cowboys Spike Spiegel and Jet Black, who are joined by more crew members as the episodes progress.
Why should you see the anime? Cowboy Bebop is one of the most well-known representatives from free TV, with which many probably grew up. Despite its relatively episodic narrative style, Cowboy Bebop has managed to tell a continuous story that captivates you. Action, tension, and crime are balanced, but more emotional moments also occur, which still convince even after decades – and maybe soothe the pain of the very strange live-action adaptation.
