Sometimes you need to act quickly or just want to capture the last highlight of the game again. But before you have clicked through several programs or started the right software, the decisive battle is already over.
What are shortcuts? Shortcuts or key combinations can make your life easier. Because you only need to press a specific key combination for a function. Some shortcuts, like Alt + F4, are likely known by just about everyone, but there are also a few shortcuts that are less well-known.
Therefore, we present you a few shortcuts that can make your life easier on Windows when you need to act quickly or are just looking for a few tips.
Quick switch between windows
You are currently playing your favorite game and have the MeinMMO guide open in one window that you always read? With Alt + Tab, you can quickly switch between multiple windows. Just hold down the Alt key and press the Tab key repeatedly until you reach the window you want to bring to the front.
Also practical is Alt + Esc. This lets you switch between all open windows without needing a menu or going through the taskbar.
Force fullscreen or windowed mode
Do you want to quickly switch from fullscreen mode to windowed mode or vice versa in the game? Then press the combination Alt + Enter. With this, you force Windows to switch to the opposite mode of the one you are currently in: If you are currently in fullscreen, you switch to windowed mode and vice versa.
The key combination ignores the setting you have made in your game. However, the set resolution remains intact.
Quickly capture gameplay
Do you want to quickly capture your favorite moment in the game or want to save an absurd boss fight that you just barely managed? On Windows, you have the option to capture the last 30 seconds of your gameplay.
Windows uses the Xbox Game Bar for this, which should usually already be installed on your system. With the key combination Windows + Alt + G, you can record the last 30 seconds of the game. The recordings will then land in a video folder.
As an alternative, there are also software suites from AMD and Nvidia. If you have a graphics card from the respective manufacturer, you can enable the recording function and assign it to a shortcut in both GeForce Experience and AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition:
- For Nvidia, you switch to the overlay with Alt + Z and can start the recording here
- For AMD, you select Alt + R and get directly to the overlay. Here, you first need to click to activate the “ReLive” function. After that, you can capture gameplay with Ctrl + Shift + R.
Move windows between monitors
If you are using multiple monitors, you can use the combination of Windows + Shift + Arrow (left or right) to move your open window to the other monitor. This is convenient when you want to quickly get a window out of the way.
If you don’t have a wide monitor, you can rearrange the window in one of the four corners on your monitor.
In case of emergency: Reinitialize graphics driver and screen.
Do you have display issues or your monitor stays black? With the key combination Ctrl + Windows + Shift + B, you can reinitialize your graphics driver, and the screen detection will restart. Microsoft calls this function “Wake PC from blank or black screen.”
Your screen will briefly go black and you will hear a short beep. It’s good to know the key combination for emergencies.
