Candlekeep
Although Candlekeep is not a city, it is a legendary library and fortress on the Sword Coast and definitely belongs to the places one should know about.
It is considered one of the most significant sources of knowledge and education in the Forgotten Realms. The secluded complex lies on the Sword Coast, south of Baldur’s Gate, on a cliff overlooking the Sea of Swords.
Access is strictly regulated: Anyone wishing to enter must donate a previously unknown work to the library. Within the fortress, scholars and mages – the so-called custodians – oversee countless books, scrolls, and artifacts.
Candlekeep is not only a place for study and research but also a starting point for many adventures, such as in the adventure collection “Candlekeep Mysteries,” where each chapter begins with a mysterious book from the depths of the library.
