4. The Monkey
Expected theatrical release: February 20, 2025
The Monkey is actually a short story by horror master Stephen King, first published in 1980. It revolves around a family whose two sons find a monkey toy with cymbals, which is also known from many movies and series.
Whenever the cymbals clash, it seems that someone dies. As it turns out, the toy also has a story related to the missing grandfather of the two brothers. They then attempt to destroy the toy.
The film seems quite promising not only because of the source material, but also because of director Oz Perkins, the son of the legendary Psycho actor. With Longlegs, he already proved in 2024 that he can handle horror and plays beautifully with perspectives and camera angles.
3. 28 Years Later
Expected theatrical release: July 19, 2025
18 years after the last installment, the 28-Days series is set to continue once again. Danny Boyle, who also directed the first part, is back in. Cillian Murphy will also return and offer us a new story in the cruel zombie post-apocalypse.
Also returning is Alex Garland as the screenwriter, who is well-versed in post-apocalypse themes. He demonstrated this in 2018 with his own film Annihilation. In the sequel, the virus returns, and the surviving humans must face a horde of zombies again.
If the film turns out well, one can look forward to another sequel (28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple), which has already been filmed alongside the current part.
