When it comes to great movies, 2023 has been a successful year. Due to the strike, the next few years may offer fewer films, but this year we can still look forward to many interesting movies. There’s also much to be excited about in the horror genre.
As always, this year we will also see horror films from the Conjuring universe. Already on February 8, fans could watch another Haunted House
film in Night Swim. In this list, we present you with 5 horror films to keep an eye on this year, apart from the jump-scare horror.
How did this list come about? This list aims to be a good mix of various horror genres. Each film is expected to still be released this year. If the horror film you are looking forward to the most is not included, let us know in the comments.

1. Return to Silent Hill
Expected theatrical release: 2024
The famous video game series Silent Hill has had 2 film adaptations in the past, but Return to Silent Hill is supposed to be another reboot. The film is expected to be closer to the games and deal with James, who searches for his lost love in the mysterious city. In Silent Hill, James must then fight against falling into madness.
Christophe Gans is once again involved, who also directed the first Silent Hill film. The creator of the games, Keiichiro Toyama, is co-writing the script. The first images and concept art show the return of iconic monsters like Pyramid Head.
2. Alien: Romulus
Expected theatrical release: August 15, 2024
After Alien: Covenant and Prometheus, many fans of the sci-fi horror series were disappointed. This year, after 7 years, a new film from the franchise is being released, about which not much is known yet. The film is expected to reboot the series and focus, similar to the first part, on a group that must survive a confrontation with the Xenomorph.
Despite the little information, the involvement of Fede Alvarez is interesting and promising. He is directing and co-writing the script. With his Evil Dead reboot from 2013 and the film Don’t Breathe, he has proven that he knows how to craft horror.
