5. Midsommar
Ari Aster is a unique director who achieved a fantastic reinterpretation of current horror tropes with Hereditary and made something completely different this year with Beau is Afraid. His second major film, Midsommar, is also something entirely different.
Dani goes on a vacation trip with her boyfriend Christian and a group of friends to a Swedish village. There, the Midsommar festival is taking place, but it ends in a true nightmare filled with cult rituals and disturbing scenes. Especially Florence Pugh as Dani likely gives the best performance of her career here.
How quirky and unpredictable a film is obviously depends on the viewer’s perspective. This list includes a mix. What do you think of the films, and which horror movies do you recommend that stand out from the common mass? Write it in the comments.
