3. Malignant
Madison lives a life in which she experiences a lot of violence, and it seems like not much is going to change. But suddenly, she has visions of murders that actually occur. Whether she is just imagining it or whether there is something to the visions relates to her repressed past.
Looking at the trailer for Malignant, the film appears similar to many current horror films. Jump scares and a mysterious figure sound like a film from the Conjuring series. But the first impression is misleading, as the film actually experiments with numerous horror genre clichés and provides an unexpected twist.
4. Funny Games
When it comes to uncomfortable films, Funny Games is a true classic. In the film by German director Michael Haneke, a family just wants to enjoy their vacation in a holiday home. However, they are soon visited by two young men who decide to torment the family with cruel games.
The film deals with the glorification of violence and how the youth copes with it. The attitude and appearance of the two perpetrators is central to the message that one cannot tell someone’s potential for violence just by looking at them.
