5 Reasons why the co-op experiment A Way Out will succeed

March 2018 holds some promising new releases for multiplayer fans. Among the most exciting titles is “A Way Out” – an action-adventure that breaks new ground in co-op multiplayer and storytelling.

On March 23, A Way Out will be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It is a story-driven co-op action-adventure played from a third-person perspective.

The special thing about this game is: A Way Out is developed entirely as a cooperative split-screen experience – there is no single-player mode. A second player is mandatory. You can play either in “couch co-op” mode on the same screen or over an online connection.

Players take control of Leo and Vincent – two convicted prison inmates who must escape from prison and embark on a cinematographically staged flight from the law enforcement.

Co-op at the Highest Level

In terms of gameplay, A Way Out is unique thus far – it’s hard to compare it to other games. However, it offers everything that makes co-op hearts beat faster.

You must continuously communicate with your partner, search for new solutions together, make plans, and constantly adapt them to new developments, try different strategies, and make serious joint decisions that significantly influence the course of your adventure.

Diverse Gameplay

The gameplay of A Way Out looks varied and has different mechanics in store. There are stealth elements including sneaking passages. Certain situations should be dealt with using your eloquence. And action-packed situations are not neglected: there will be shooting, fighting with fists and improvised weapons, running, swimming, jumping, and climbing.

Players will be repeatedly faced with decisions that have consequences for the gameplay. There is no fixed role distribution. Dialogue options exist for both protagonists. Both are free in their actions and there are always multiple ways to master a situation.

Innovative Storytelling

The story of the two protagonists Leo and Vincent is told simultaneously but often asymmetrically and is nearly cinematic in its staging.

This means that for example, one player actively controls their character in the game while the other is currently watching a cutscene in which they still experience the active player’s actions live.

The same applies in reverse – the active player sees their partner involved in a cutscene along with their actions and reactions. The transitions are fluid.

This style of storytelling greatly contributes to immersion. An intense experience of each situation is always the focus

Unique Couch Experience with Split-Screen

An exciting story with emotional highlights and twists, a serious background, a realistic setting, a cinematic narrative style, well-drawn distinctive characters with flaws, relatable problems – all of this generates a lot of discussion and debate, much like a good film, and should be particularly appealing to a more mature audience.

The split-screen feature, which is unfortunately rarely found in games anymore, will add an extra incentive to the whole experience. Because it allows you to enjoy the gaming experience with your best friend or partner comfortably from the couch, something many adults long for. Thus, the shared experience of the story is made even more intense.

Only One Copy of the Game Needed

To play, you only need one copy of A Way Out. The owner can invite friends into their game without them having to purchase their own version of the game. This works not only on the couch but also online without any issues.
