Catching, Collecting and Battling Monsters
An important part of Palworld are the monsters that you can catch and collect. Therefore, you can see some games where exactly this is the focus.
Temtem
Players: MMO | Mode: PvE, PvP |
What kind of game is this? Temtem is an MMO where you collect different monsters like in Pokémon and engage in turn-based battles with them. The special feature of Temtem is that you can truly explore the entire map with friends and meet other players everywhere.
In the story of Temtem, you aim to improve your skills as a Temtem tamer and simultaneously take on the evil Belsoto clan. There are also something like gym leaders whom you can challenge just like other players.
Unlike in Pokémon, however, there are only double battles in Temtem. This means you always face two Pals against two other Pals.
Cassette Beasts
Players: Solo, Couch Coop | Mode: PvE |
What kind of game is this? Cassette Beats is a game like Pokémon where you collect different monsters and battle against other trainers. However, instead of catching the various monsters in balls, you catch them in cassettes.
Like Pokémon and Temtem, Cassette Beasts also relies on turn-based battles, where you can change the elemental type of your beasts using “elemental chemistry”. However, battles in Cassette Beasts have another special twist: You don’t just send the captured monsters into battle, but transform into your companions.
Unlike current Pokémon games or the Pokémon MMO Temtem, Cassette Beasts does not rely on modern 3D graphics and instead comes in a classic retro design. However, it features a local coop mode,
Honorable Mention: Pokémon Legends Arceus (not on Steam)
We probably don’t need to introduce you to the game “Pokémon Legends: Arceus,” but if you are not yet aware of the similarities to Palworld, we will summarize the most important details of the game here.
What kind of game is this? In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Pokémon god Arceus sends you back in time, where you must complete the first Pokédex in the later Sinnoh.
Legends Arceus is particularly interesting for Palworld players because the catching mechanics of the two games are quite similar. Unlike in other Pokémon games, you don’t catch the different pocket monsters in turn-based battles by simply selecting a ball.
In Legends Arceus, you move freely on the map while catching, you need to aim at the Pokémon, and throw the ball with a button press. The Pokémon can attack you during this time and inflict damage, requiring you to dodge the attacks as you would in Palworld.
Additionally, you don’t go to the supermarket to buy new Pokéballs, but craft them yourself with collected materials. So, if you enjoy Palworld and haven’t played Legends Arceus yet, that might be an alternative for you.
You can see that when looking for games like Palworld, there isn’t a perfect alternative that delivers the mix of survival game, monster catching, and humor – and exactly this combination is what I enjoy so much about Palworld:The new survival game Palworld is great because it combines some of the best games
