2022 is almost over and MeinMMO is already looking at 2023 with its major releases for multiplayer fans. We present here a list of five of the biggest announced games so far.
What kind of list is this? We are presenting five ambitious multiplayer titles that are planned for release in 2023. The list includes games that are being developed with significant effort and offer multiplayer modes.
We are not focusing on a specific genre and the list does not represent a ranking. It consists of brief game introductions that could be among the biggest releases of 2023. Here you will find:

We will briefly introduce the titles, show what is known about multiplayer, and when the release is planned. Have fun exploring!
The Day Before – A Gaming Surprise Bag
What kind of game is this? The Day Before is very reminiscent of the loot shooter “The Division” and offers similar mechanics. However, the new game is said to provide more survival elements and is set in a world full of zombies.
The graphics of the first trailers look excellent, as it runs on Unreal Engine 5. It promises a large, realistic open world with complex crafting mechanics. For many months, it has been among the most desired games on Steam.
However, there is a lot of skepticism surrounding The Day Before. The project looks very ambitious, and there are many players and experts who have reservations about whether the relatively small, unknown developer studio “Fntastic” can deliver such a large and high-quality game and meet all promises.
When is the planned release? Currently, the release date is set for March 1, 2023. It will be available on Steam and current-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series. It was one of the major games that was postponed from 2022.
What is the multiplayer like? The Day Before is supposed to offer extensive cooperative content, and you will likely be able to experience everything together with friends. You may also encounter hostile players.

Throne and Liberty – Big MMORPG for PC and Consoles
What kind of game is this? The history of Throne and Liberty is tumultuous. There were initial playtests as early as 2015, then still under the name Lineage Eternal and with mobile plans. However, the focus is now fully on PC and even the latest consoles PS5 and Xbox Series.
There are still not many details available. It is based on an action combat system, and the first scenes remind of the system from Elder Scrolls Online. The following features are known:
- Large, open game world
- Story adventures are the focus
- 3rd-person perspective
- Many mobile means of transportation (grappling hooks, flying creatures, etc.)
- Environmental influences on the world – day cycle / weather
- Huge world bosses
- Sieges play an important role
- PvP exists, but is not mandatory
Especially on consoles, Throne and Liberty could fulfill a niche – the selection of high-quality MMORPGs on consoles is still limited.
When is the planned release? Our MMORPG expert Alexander Leitsch sees a 75% chance that Throne and Liberty will be released in 2023. However, when exactly is still unclear, a postponement is also possible. Initial release plans were already made in 2021.
What is the multiplayer like? The MMORPG will provide extensive cooperative content, as is usual for the genre.
Recently, there were also new details about PvP – most areas in the game are safe, but there are also clear PvP zones. Additionally, guilds can band together and earn special advantages and resources in separate modes.

ARK 2 – The Big Upgrade?
What kind of game is this? ARK 2 is the sequel to the survival phenomenon ARK: Survival Evolved. Not all details are known yet, but it is likely a modernization of the first part.
ARK 1 is huge, offers plenty of content, and if the successor is based on that, it is a very ambitious project.
You wake up naked on a beach, search for food, build a shelter, and regularly get eaten by dinosaurs. Then you craft better weapons, mix tranquilizing potions, and catch some dinosaurs to use them for fighting or resource gathering.
ARK 1 relies on large public or private servers with PvE or PvP orientation. What is known so far about ARK 2 can be found in our information article about the game.
When is the planned release? In June 2022, developer Wildcard confirmed a release in 2023, but no exact date. However, it is currently only coming for PC and Xbox Series, but not for PS5.
What is the multiplayer like? If the game is based on its predecessor, you will be able to experience the entire ARK 2 on a server of your choice together – with or without PvP.

Diablo 4 – The Biggest Game of the Year?
What kind of game is this? The Diablo series has made “looting & leveling” fashionable. The first part was released in 1996, the “current” Diablo 3 came out 10 years ago, but is still being supported. In 2023, the sequel will finally arrive and is likely to be one of the biggest games of the year.
Diablo 4 is an action RPG that is based on an isometric perspective – a tilted top-down view. There are 5 selectable classes at launch, all offering very different play styles, such as a necromancer with skeleton minions or a barbarian who relies on brute force.
You use your abilities to annihilate endless hordes of demons and continually improve your equipment. Our large information hub has more details on Diablo 4.
When is the planned release? The release is scheduled for June 6, 2023. It will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
What is the multiplayer like? The series goes one step further towards MMO with Diablo 4, and you will also discover other players walking around your map. All content will likely be playable cooperatively and PvP is also possible, but will not be the main focus.

Wild Hearts – EA is Hunting in Monster Hunter
What kind of game is this? Publisher EA surprisingly announced a completely new brand in 2022. With Wild Hearts comes an action game that is strongly reminiscent of Monster Hunter but brings its own ideas. The visuals are heavily inspired by feudal Japan.
You search, hunt, and process monsters in the world of Wild Hearts to gather gold and materials for better equipment. In addition, you expand your base for further bonuses.
In the battles, you have so-called “Karakuri” at your disposal – small structures that you can quickly create and use to your advantage. They provide a lot of mobility and action in the fights. Here you can find a brief preview report.
When is the planned release? Wild Hearts will be released on February 17 for PC (Steam, Epic) as well as for the consoles PS5 and Xbox Series.
What is the multiplayer like? Wild Hearts will mostly be playable in cooperation and even offers crossplay for all platforms.
