Nine students gather in their old school to say goodbye to a friend. As is usual, they perform a sort of ritual to vow to remain friends forever, even when they lose sight of each other.
However, the little charms they use have a connection to an elementary school that was torn down after some gruesome murders, and on whose ruins the new school now stands. Trapped in this strange, alternate dimension, they experience the vengeful spirits of the past and must cooperate to escape the horror – or join the tormented souls for all eternity.
What makes Corpse Party worth watching? Corpse Party shows that Anime can also have an extreme representation of violence and cruelty that makes some “real” slasher films look tame. Severed bodies, dismembered limbs, and flying guts, combined with a suffocating and brutal story create an experience you won’t forget easily.
Be sure that this short series is in no way suitable for children – and even some adults might need a strong stomach to handle it.

Demons are trying to invade the world of mortals but need a body they can possess to do so. After attending an orgiastic party, Akira realizes that he has been possessed by the demon “Amon,” whose powers he can barely control.
From then on, he tries to save his friends from the growing power of the demons as a hybrid of devil and human, a so-called “Devilman,” but the creature inside him continuously rebels. Amon amplifies desires and base instincts, trying to seize control.
What makes Devilman Crybaby worth watching? This series has a very different animation style compared to other anime and may resemble cartoon series from the 90s. However, it fits wonderfully with the bizarre and cruel world that is presented here. The anime features psychedelic moments, and the wild orgies of the demons – whether in blood or sexual frenzy – are disturbing.
An interesting, adult storyline and exciting characters make Devilman Crybaby a must-watch for anyone who enjoys horror or demons in general. Don’t be deterred by the strange name.

The Seikyou Private School has a dark secret – or rather a rumor that circulates among the students. The ghost of a young woman is said to inhabit here and occasionally kill people. This ghost, however, is Yuuko – who died many years ago and, as a dead person, has no memories of her life or death.
In order to find out anything, she gets in touch with the school’s “Occult Club” and reveals herself. Together with the club members, they try to uncover the mystery behind the “7 Secrets of the School” – and perhaps learn something about Yuuko’s past and her peculiar amnesia.
What makes Dusk Maiden of Amnesia worth watching? Dusk Maiden of Amnesia is by far the lightest anime on this list and is generally suitable for the whole family. Although there are indeed scary moments, it is more a story with heart and less horror than other representatives on this list. Nevertheless, the plot is exciting, the story lovable, and the final episode alone will stay in your memory for a long time.
