What kind of game was it? The MMORPG offered players a vast sandbox in the Star Wars universe during the time of the original film trilogy. The story was set between episodes 4 and 5. Players could explore ten planets, fly in space, engage in battles, or simply acquire and furnish a house.
Star Wars Galaxies did not stand out for exciting quests, but rather for the social interplay among fans. It became a kind of virtual second home for some.
When was it shut down? The MMORPG was shut down on December 15, 2011, about a week before the launch of Bioware’s Star Wars: The Old Republic. The decision was made by rights holder LucasArts.
Both MMORPGs probably shouldn’t interfere with each other, and SWTOR saw a greater potential for long-term success.
How can you continue to play? There are several private servers, but Star Wars Galaxies Legends is probably the most well-known. The operators offer fans a classic gaming experience, just as SWG was at its peak. This led to considerable success. There are always enough players to share adventures with.
