MeinMMO shows you 5 really good coop games in Early Access where you can’t really go wrong. Here’s a link back to page 1.
Phasmophobia – Ghost Hunting in the Horror House
Genre: Horror Simulation | Developer: Kinetic Games | Platform: PC (supports VR) | Start Early Access: September 18, 2020 | Coop Players: 2 – 4 | Price: €11.59 on Steam (03/22/21)
What kind of game is Phasmophobia? In the horror simulation, you take on the role of enthusiastic ghost hunters and search for supernatural phenomena. With up to 4 players, you sneak through creepy houses in first-person perspective at night and must find out what type of ghost has taken up residence in the properties.
Phasmophobia fully relies on immersion and oppressive atmosphere – even offers VR support for the bravest among you.
Despite its supernatural gameplay foundations, Phasmophobia is based on reality and aims to offer an “authentic” ghost hunt. You handle EMF devices that measure electromagnetic fluctuations, check the ambient temperature with thermometers that drop when a ghost is nearby, and can protect yourself from ghost attacks with a crucifix.
The supernatural visitors are usually not too pleased that you want to learn more about their backgrounds and intentions. They react to your actions and even to your voice when you use the in-game chat. For instance, if you say the earthly name of the ghosts, you anger the spooky figures. They can even kill you if you don’t flee quickly enough.
The goal of the game is to gather as much information about the ghost as possible without dying. For completed missions, you earn money with which you can buy further ghost-hunting equipment for the next rounds. However, if you die, you lose your gear. For whom is Phasmophobia exciting? If you’re looking for a tense adventure for your VR hardware, you should check out Phasmophobia. The game doesn’t have to be played in VR and is already damn scary on the monitor. So, you can also bring friends without VR headsets with you.
All fans of scary adventures, who are usually too jumpy for such games but continuously seek thrills, will also find what they’re looking for. The “realistic” gameplay combined with the eerie atmosphere will scare you if you engage with it.
However, if you prefer to be the active ghost hunter who frees the world from spooky plagues with proton beams and cool quips, Phasmophobia is not for you. Your mission is solely to understand the type and backgrounds of the ghost and complete tasks with goosebumps.
How much time can you invest? This can vary widely. If you are captivated by the gameplay and the game idea, this horror adventure can accompany you for a while. There is a leveling system, more than 20 ghost-hunting equipment, 7 different houses, and 12 types of ghosts that show different behaviors.
Are you looking for a gripping adventure that you can experience with your crew? Then Phasmophobia offers enough scare material for a few evenings. As long as you still panic and run to your safe van whenever the EMF meter spikes, you’ll have fun with the title. However, the thrill can diminish over time, which takes some charm from the game.
How do the ratings look? The game is rated “Very Positive” on Steam, with 97% of the 202,085 reviews giving the title a thumbs up (As of March 21, 2021).
What will happen next with Phasmophobia? On Steam, the developers state that the horror fun aims to celebrate its full release in 2021, if all goes as planned. The full version is expected to deliver “a lot” of new content – more ghosts, more gear, more maps. They also want to incorporate community requests. The developers also plan to increase the price after Early Access.
The scare shocker Phasmophobia thrives on its atmosphere and deep immersion in an exciting situation. On the last page 5, you’ll find another title that takes a completely different approach. Satisfactory doesn’t put pressure on you, doesn’t try to scare or kill you. It simply wants you to build the perfect factory. Nothing more, nothing less.
