Theramore
Theramore was a city of the Alliance – the only one that existed on the continent of Kalimdor. Jaina Proudmoore built this city and maintained diplomatic relations with the orcs after the end of Warcraft III. While one cannot speak of friendship, the two factions respected each other here and lived peacefully side by side.
At least until Garrosh Hellscream became the Warchief of the Horde. He was obviously bothered by the presence of a human city on Kalimdor and saw a quick, efficient method to change that: A mana bomb.
And that is precisely what happened. The infiltrated mana bomb wiped out the entire city within a second. Only a few people survived – among them only the most powerful mages who could shield themselves at the last moment. All the inhabitants, including Jaina’s student, were caught and annihilated by the bomb in a fraction of a second. Many of them crystallized into violet crystal and then crumbled at the slightest touch.
This attack was also the turning point in Jaina’s story. She lost all sympathy for the orcs and from then on always pushed for the complete destruction of the orcs and the Horde. Something that only slowly diminished with the end of Battle for Azeroth.
A mana bomb is still considered one of the most horrific weapons ever developed by the peoples of Azeroth. The blueprints for such a bomb were kept secret by the Kirin Tor after the incidents, but ended up in the hands of the Nerubians with the destruction of Dalaran.
While Jaina managed to find and destroy the plans – whether this knowledge has spread, we will only find out over time…
Of course, there are many other cities in World of Warcraft that have been destroyed. Stromgarde, the Undercity, or Silvermoon have all suffered great losses, and many smaller villages have also been attacked throughout the story, leading to the extermination of their inhabitants. Generally, WoW is a rather cruel world – and that is also reflected in the most cruel quests.
