Some experiences in MMORPGs are unique. Others, however, we’ve all encountered. Here are 5 things that each of you has witnessed in a public chat, whether you wanted to or not.
One of the nice things about MMORPGs is that countless people can exchange ideas in the global chat.
One of the annoying things about MMORPGs is that countless people can exchange ideas in the global chat.
Accordingly, the global chat in many virtual worlds is a breeding ground for stupid comments, personal feuds between players, and other less pleasant discussion topics.
In this article, you will find 5 annoying things that each of you has seen in a public MMORPG chat.
Gold Seller
The gold seller and RMT (Real Money Trader) bots have existed in MMORPGs for ages. How often have many of us been greeted upon logging in with a message in the public chat from a gentleman named Endoihgse Pdjnejs or something similar, stating that on the [Suspicious site X] [any amount of gold] is available for “only” [price in €]?
It’s also very cheap. The lowest price you can find. And the delivery is super-fast and guaranteed safe. No one will catch you because the delivery methods are completely foolproof. So you don’t have to worry about your account, and especially not about your credit card. It’s all very safe and trustworthy.
But where there is a demand, there is also a supply. And so, many an MMORPG player has been tempted to use their bank account to get ahead, instead of relying on their skills and game time.
Players who complain about everything
The eternal whiners can be found everywhere in our life. In our circles of acquaintances, at work, in the neighborhood, and of course in our online communities. In MMORPGs, these whiners sit in the public chat and talk and talk and talk.
Because everything in the MMORPG is crap. Absolutely everything. The old content is crap, the new one too. The casual content is too casual; any idiot can do it with blindfolded eyes and a broken arm. But the hardcore content is way too hard. Who on earth is this garbage even made for? Welfare recipients? The devs have no clue about their own game. And anyway, why hasn’t class XY been nerfed yet?
And it goes on uninterrupted all day long. These whiners have elevated whining in the public chat to a new art form. They hate every single aspect of the MMO they play. And yet, they log in every day anew.
Players who praise everything to the skies
In stark contrast to the whiners in MMORPGs are the fan kids. They are the sacred guardians, the great protectors, the last line of defense, who shield their beloved game from that terrible detrimental criticism. Because in THEIR game, everything is perfect.
Every gameplay mechanic, every pixel, and polygon is exactly as it should be. No, the boss is not poorly balanced. You haters just have no idea how to play correctly. The MMORPG just won’t serve everything on a silver platter. And the mechanics aren’t boring. Have you checked it out in game Y? THAT is boring. No idea why people celebrate it there.
You would think the biggest enemies of these players would be the haters. But that’s not the case. It’s anyone who dares to criticize their beloved MMORPG in the slightest. And these villains must be thoroughly debated in the public chat.
“Accidental” ERP
Imagine this: You’re calmly chatting in the public MMORPG chat about the latest update or asking for tips, harming no one. And suddenly, a message appears in your chat window stating, “Player Y gently strokes XXXX and lies down XXXX so that XXX can better XXXXXX.”
Closely followed by a “Oops, wrong chat.” But it’s too late. Everyone has seen the message now. Yet instead of behaving like true gentlemen and ignoring the part, it becomes the center of the entire conversation. While the initial reactions lean towards “LOL” or “WTF,” questions soon follow asking whether the sender meant XXXX or rather XXXXXX.
Whether there was really RPG, i.e., erotic roleplay going on, or someone was just trolling, at this point no one cares anymore. It is wildly debated whether XXXXXX is even possible with the character’s race and that something like that should be forbidden. Honestly.
