What is the anime about? The brothers Alphonse and Edward try to resurrect their deceased mother. In the alchemy experiment, things go wrong, causing their bodies to be permanently altered: Edward loses his arm and leg, Alphonse loses his entire body.
Together, the two try to get back their bodies. To do this, they search for the Philosopher’s Stone. Along the way, the brothers uncover a conspiracy that concerns the whole world.
Why is it known for the wrong reasons? The series is one of the best anime there is. Nevertheless, it is known for a specific scene. In fact, there is a similar premise to that of Made in Abyss. Nina Tucker is a little girl who loves her dog more than anything. Her father conducts cruel experiments, in which Nina’s mother has also died.
As his state alchemist license expires, the father conducts an experiment on Nina that also caused the mother to die. He transforms Nina and her dog into a chimera, an abominable creature that still gives many fans nightmares today.
Elfen Lied
What is the anime about? The Diclonius are human hybrids who grow small horns. Humanity conducts experiments on them because they possess a unique feature. The Diclonius are born with telekinetic powers. These are invisible arms called vectors. Lucy is one such Diclonius and manages to escape from her research station.
However, Lucy injures her head during her escape, causing her personality to split. Most of the time she is a harmless girl who can speak very few words. But occasionally, the cold-blooded killer comes to light. Furthermore, college student Kouta takes care of her, putting him in the sights of the government.
Why is it known for the wrong reasons? In the first few seconds of Elfen Lied, various body parts fly through the air. The telekinetic powers of the Diclonius are so strong that they can literally tear people apart. The series does not hold back with children or animals, which are brutally killed.
Where Elfen Lied initially appears to be a harmless anime with pink-haired girls, underlying it is one of the most brutal animes. For this reason, Elfen Lied is one of many animes that have become famous regardless of story and art style.
Ghost Stories
What is the anime about? Satsuki and Keiichirou have lost their mother. They move and attend a new school, which is said to be haunted. Initially, they dismiss this as a figment of their imagination, but soon realize that the ghosts do exist.
Together with their friends and the help of a cat, they try to survive. The book of their deceased mother, containing spells, helps them.
Why is it known for the wrong reasons? In principle, the creepy stories of a horror anime should offer little to smile about. However, the voice actors of the English dub delivered such a performance with their improvisation that the anime became more well-known as a result.
The voice actors were allowed to do what they wanted. Only the basic storyline could not be altered. This resulted in hilarious quotes that turned the horror anime into a comedy series. However, keep in mind that some quotes are racist or homophobic.
