There are some anime series that have made a name for themselves even outside of the community. The reason for this is often controversial. MeinMMO shows you 5 anime that remain unforgettable to viewers for unusual reasons.
Warning: In the following article, we also talk about topics related to explicit and sexual violence.
How were the animes selected? Many of the series on this list are primarily known for a controversial reason. This has led to the creation of memes, celebrated in the community (and beyond!).
The order in which we mention the animes does not matter. If you can think of other anime series that deserve a spot on the list, feel free to let us know in the comments!
Made in Abyss
What is the anime about? The Abyss is a gigantic chasm divided into several levels. Each level has a different curse that makes the descent to the bottom increasingly difficult. These include nausea and internal bleeding.
The young girl Riko still wants to go to the Abyss. She suspects that her mother is there. Together with her robot friend Reg, she wants to fight her way to the last level of the Abyss.
Why is it known for the wrong reasons? The anime is known for a particularly brutal scene, which stands in stark contrast to its appearance. Mitty and Nanachi, two children, are locked in capsules. Nanachi’s curse is transferred to Mitty, turning Nanachi into a rabbit-human hybrid.
However, this does not end well for Mitty. She screams in pain and her body deforms. She even begs Nanachi through the capsule wall to just kill her because she is suffering so much. Mitty transforms into a lump of living flesh that still has one eye, limbs, and a deformed mouth. The scene is so disgusting that it is known to many.
Goblin Slayer

What is the anime about? Goblin Slayer is all about the little nuisances that many gamers know as weak sidekicks. However, the anime shows how brutal the creatures really are and what impact their actions have on the world.
The Goblin Slayer has made it his mission to kill only these monsters. He receives a lot of ridicule for this, as there are far greater monsters that offer a bigger bounty. Nevertheless, several characters join him throughout the anime and support him on his journey.
Why is it known for the wrong reasons? Although goblins themselves are not a great threat, the anime directly shows what they are capable of. The first episode stuck in the minds of many fans as the goblins revealed a brutal side.
The group around a young priestess is systematically wiped out. Some people are brutally beaten down. One girl has it particularly hard as she is raped by the goblins. Although the scene is only implied, it disturbed numerous viewers after just 10 minutes. This may deter many, even though the anime has a lot of warmth and a profound main character to offer.
