Natsuo has been in love with his teacher Hina for several years, but she is unreachable for various reasons. When he attends a small party with some friends, he meets Rui, who also seems frustrated. The two start talking and Rui asks Natsuo to sleep with her – so she won’t be treated as an “ignorant kid” by her friends anymore. Both are quite dissatisfied with their first experience and part ways afterward as if nothing had happened.
When Natsuo comes home, his father tells him that he is getting married again. Shortly thereafter, the woman moves in and brings her children with her: Hina and Rui, who are now his sisters. A love triangle filled with explosive potential develops.
What to expect from Domestic Girlfriend? Honestly? It’s best not to expect much, because then you will have the most fun with the series. To quote the YouTuber Gigguk a bit freely: “This is either a trash anime with good moments or a good anime with trash moments. I haven’t figured it out yet.”
Basically, something suggestive or a coincidence that puts the characters in new and often (melo)dramatic situations happens every 5 minutes.
Domestic Girlfriend can probably be most closely compared to a car accident. Somehow you don’t want to know what’s going on, yet you cannot look away. Therefore, it’s not surprising that this anime exists in several versions with different degrees of censorship. You have been warned about what you are getting into here.

Tsukasa is a diligent employee, popular with the bosses and even more popular with the ladies – much to the dismay of Hinata, who completely fades into his friend’s shadow and has no luck with women.
After a party where Tsukasa once again attracted everyone’s attention, Hinata loses his composure. He throws himself on the floor and drunkenly talks about wanting to be “a beautiful woman with irresistible charm” himself.
Apparently, a goddess listened at that very moment and pulls the two into a parallel world. While Tsukasa retains his body and is endowed with incredible powers, Hinata transforms into a pretty woman who charms everyone around him – whether he wants to or not.
The two set off to fulfill the goddess’s will, freeing this parallel world from evil and returning Hinata to his male form… and making sure they don’t fall for each other.
What to expect from Life with an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a total Fantasy Knockout? Humor. Unlike many other series on this list, this anime is primarily comedy and does not take itself too seriously. The relationship between the two protagonists is quite entertaining but is actually only a sideline of the storyline. Most of the time, the adventures in the fantasy world or the chaos that Hinata accidentally unleashes when a whole band of thieves is enchanted by his appearance are the focus.

Due to her mother’s new marriage, Yuzu has to move and leave her old life behind. Motivated, she sees this as an opportunity to make new friends, finally experience love, and have her first kiss. But her motivation is immediately dampened. At the girls’ school, there are strict dress codes and rules that do not fit Yuzu’s style at all. She stands out so much that the student council president, Mei, takes her phone away on the first day.
When she comes home, there’s another surprise waiting. Mei is her new stepsister. The two argue and bicker – until Mei overwhelms her new sister and forces a kiss upon her, causing anger and rage, ultimately leading to a big emotional chaos.
What to expect from Citrus? Citrus is one of those animes that makes you strongly doubt after the first few episodes whether the series can really be reconciled with your own moral values. Especially the almost traumatic and forced kiss at the beginning can only be described as “sexually aggressive”. Nevertheless, the series builds well upon this, does not glorify these experiences, and puts them in the right context.
Yuri fans can hardly avoid the series – but all others are likely to be entertained as well. Despite the initially quite serious theme, Citrus is ultimately more “light fare” and belongs clearly to lighter entertainment with some more serious moments.
