The Seikyou Private Academy was built on the grounds of an old school. Many legends surround eerie incidents and stories from the past – such as the student Yuuko, who died in the basement of the old school and is now trapped as a ghost in the school.
Since she has hardly any memories of her mortal time, she tries to get the attention of the students of the Occult Club and manages to do so with Teiichi Niiya, who can speak and interact with her. Together with two other classmates, they try to unravel the mysteries of the school and learn more about Yuuko’s past to find out how she really died back then.

After death, people go to heaven or hell. But there are some exceptions. A few chosen ones who die at the same time come to Quindecim – a special bar where the deceased meet their soul judge Decim. His judgment ultimately decides whether the individuals will go to hell or heaven.
The verdict is decided through a often cruel game – in which it is not necessarily about winning or losing, but about bringing the true essence of a person to light.
But are Decim’s rules really fair to judge human lives? He begins to question his own moral standards when confronted with a black-haired woman who is suffering from amnesia and is supposed to help him at the bar for a while.
