An annual charity event on Twitch by Vtubers called “vSmile” began in 2021 as an initiative to raise donations. Now they are going into the third round, and MeinMMO tells you who is behind the project and what it is all about.
What are Vtubers? Vtuber is short for “Virtual YouTuber“. These content creators, who hide behind virtual avatars, have gained a large following on platforms like YouTube and Twitch in recent years.
Vtubers use motion capture technology and real-time animation to bring their digital characters to life and create interactive livestreams and videos.
The fascination of the audience lies not only in the unique and often lovable personalities of the Vtubers but also in the opportunity to interact with their virtual idols.
Here you can find another charity event organized by streamers:
Who is behind vSmile? The origin of vSmile, a remarkable charity event that has united the Virtual YouTuber community since 2021, goes back to an inspiring idea by Twitch streamer Lia’del Yuli.
In response to the devastating floods in Germany that year, Lia initially decided to host a charity livestream alone for the flood victims. She presented her idea to the community and received a great response. Within a short time, so many people offered their support that she was literally overwhelmed.
Among those who spontaneously decided to join this commendable initiative were Vtuber artists Kiyichu, Ako Yagami, and Frau Mauzenberger.
Frau Mauzenberger remembers this early time and says: ‘Like the complete idiots we are, we suggested bringing all supporters together and making a big event out of it.’
The naming process was a challenge, but ultimately, they decided on “vSmile” because it sounds like “We Smile” – a message that says they will smile for the people no matter what happens.
What makes this event particularly impressive is the fact that the organizers and participants do not receive any financial compensation. They are volunteering for this good cause.
Their joint commitment is a positive example of the power of the online community and their willingness to do good.
Numerous Vtubers are participating
How did the first charity event go? They only had about a week to put the entire event together in the first year. Despite this tight deadline, around 40 Vtubers joined the initiative to take part in this unique stream marathon.
The response from viewers and supporters was overwhelming, and in the end, the organizers of vSmile were able to collect a remarkable sum of 10,795 Euros for “Aktion Deutschland Hilft“. The money is for the victims of the flood disaster.
In light of this impressive success, they unanimously decided to make these donation streams a permanent tradition. They want to continue their mission of spreading help and hope in difficult times.
What happened next with vSmile? In the second year, 2022, vSmile was again able to achieve major successes. Over 70 Vtubers performed together and dedicated the event to cancer research.
The goal of raising 7,500 Euros was more than surpassed, as a remarkable total of 9,160 Euros was collected.
The stream marathon ended with an emotional moment when all four organizers confirmed the next event in tears. However, these tears were not only tears of joy, as Ako Yagami shared that this would unfortunately be her last vSmile as an organizer. Nevertheless, she stated that she remains determined to support the event to the best of her ability.
This year is dedicated to environmental protection
What is being raised this year? The commitment of vSmile to charitable causes is entering a new round this year. On September 9 and 10, the stream marathon will once again take place with over 40 Vtubers to raise donations for environmental protection.
Organizer Lia emphasizes the seriousness of this matter, as environmental issues affect all people, regardless of their background.
Therefore, vSmile wants not only to provide financial support but also to help raise awareness of this important issue and use the reach of the Vtuber community to initiate positive change.
This year, well-known Vtuber personalities such as Nayami or Lotta will also be actively involved and perform in their own segments to support the event and ensure the success of the fundraising campaign.
