Shadar-Kai
- Special Abilities: Blessing of the Raven Queen, Necrotic Resistance
Shadar-Kai were once normal elves until they bound themselves to the Raven Queen, a powerful goddess of death, and the Shadowfell. They are enveloped in profound sadness and melancholy and carry a feeling of pain, making them a good choice for dark campaigns or backstories.
They also have a particular fascination with death and all mortal things, as they themselves exist between life and death. This is further underscored by their appearance, as they always have pale, often grayish skin that often appears to wilt like a plant.
Like most other elves, Shadar-Kai can also live over 750 years. Their gameplay feature compared to their classic counterparts is the ability Blessing of the Raven Queen. With this, you can teleport 30 feet (9 meters) as a bonus action, and starting at level 3, you even gain resistance to all damage types until the start of your next turn.
Additionally, Shadar-Kai are inherently resistant to necrotic damage and offer all the other benefits that normal elves also provide. So, if you prefer a darker flair and want to have some gameplay advantages compared to Drow, the Shadar-Kai are a great choice.
