Dungeons & Dragons offers a variety of different elven races, yet the classics are often preferred. Therefore, we present to you 4 races that you shouldn’t miss, as they hold great potential.
Elves and half-elves are among the most popular playable races in Dungeons & Dragons (see for example YouTube). Again and again, many players revert to these classic fantasy variants. However, the multiverse of Dungeons & Dragons offers several other elven races that fly under the radar.
Many of them have useful gameplay advantages over their “normal” counterparts and are also suitable for particularly exciting character designs, developments, and backstories. To ensure you don’t miss out on them, we introduce you to 4 elven races that we believe are completely underestimated.
Eladrin

- Special Abilities: Fey Step
Eladrin originate from the Feywild and embody the seasons and emotions of the realm’s inhabitants. This is reflected in their appearance and moods. Some of them change over their lifetime, while others remain aligned with their favored season.
Autumn Eladrin represent peace and goodwill, Winter Eladrin represent reflection and sorrow, Spring Eladrin represent joy and hope, and Summer Eladrin represent boldness and unbridled energy. You can choose or roll for your alignment freely.
Like all elves, Eladrin do not need to sleep, but instead enter a deep trance to rest. You can use this meditation during any long rest to change your season. This allows you to visually adapt your character to the given situation.
Like most elves, Eladrin can live over 750 years. A very practical gameplay feature that distinguishes them from “normal” elves is their ability Fey Step. With this, you can use a bonus action to teleport 30 feet (9 meters) to a visible and unoccupied location. Starting at level 3, you even gain an additional effect that depends on your season.
