A lengthy leak video shows the first gameplay of Marvel’s Avengers. Here are 4 insights that can be drawn from this video.
What kind of video is this? Fresh from Comic Con come two leaked videos, each 6 minutes long, of Marvel’s Avengers. They showcase the first gameplay footage that was originally only presented behind closed doors.
In it, you apparently see the first story mission of the game and the gameplay of all 5 Avengers. Since the videos were filmed, the quality isn’t very high, but some interesting details can still be recognized.
The switch between the Avengers is seamless
During the battles in the story missions, you switch between the different heroes without interruptions. The order in which you play the characters seems to be determined by the story.
So in the shown story mission, you cannot simply choose an Avenger and just slash through the game with him until the end. The game will force you to switch.
Whether this will be the case for all story missions is still unclear. However, for the multiplayer quests, you will be able to choose your heroes. Although there is the restriction that two players cannot choose the same Avenger.
The combat system uses warning signals like in “Assassin’s Creed” games
During the battles in the video, red exclamation marks and indicators repeatedly appear, for example, above the heads of the opponents.
It is a warning system that you know in a similar form from Assassin’s Creed games. It is meant to signal to the player from which direction an attack is coming.
Just like in AC games, there seems to be a kind of counter system attached to it. You can see in the video multiple times how Thor attacks such marked opponents and the red exclamation mark turns white and then disappears.
The Avengers seem to have their own “super moves”
It can be seen clearly in the videos during, for example, the Thor and Ironman gameplay, that both heroes use extremely powerful-looking attacks during their fights.
- Thor creates a shockwave with his hammer and then has a glowing thunder aura around him for some time.
- Ironman uses a massive laser beam that tears apart everything in his surroundings.
- Captain America slams his shield into the ground and thereby throws the opponents away.
It is possible that these attacks need to be charged first; however, you see very little of the game’s interface in the video. Therefore, it’s hard to say what exactly the triggers for such attacks might be.
However, after Ironman, Thor, and Captain America have shown their “special skills”, one can assume that other Avengers heroes will also have their own cool moves.
Is there more than one game mode?
While Marvel’s Avengers is mostly a third-person action game, there will likely be individual sections that play differently.
When the perspective switches from Thor to Ironman in the video, the gameplay changes from a normal action brawler to a rail shooter. The section isn’t very long, but it suggests that there could be more of this.
In any case, this would give each Avenger hero a unique gameplay feel and make them more distinctive.
