What kind of cup is this? The current version of the Color Cup in Pokémon GO runs until January 21, 2025. This is a competition that has a WP limit of 1,500 in the Super League.
Which types are allowed in the competition? In addition to the restriction of 1,500 WP, there is another restriction in the Color Cup – the allowed types that your Pokémon can have. You can only compete with Pokémon that belong to the types Electric, Fire, Grass, or Water. Pokémon that have 2 types must cover just one of the mentioned types to be allowed.
Team 1: Alolan Marowak, Flygon, Morlord
What moves should the Pokémon have? If you want to play this team, your 3 Pokémon should know the following moves:
- Alolan Marowak: Fire Spin (Fire), Bone Club (Ground) and Shadow Bone (Ghost)
- Flygon: Fairy Wind (Fairy), Energy Ball (Grass) and Aerial Ace (Flying)
- Morlord: Mud Shot (Ground), Stone Edge (Rock) and Hydro Pump (Water)
If you don’t have an Alolan Marowak with Shadow Bone, you will need to use a Charged TM for that, as it’s an exclusive move. The same goes for Morlord and the move Hydro Pump.
How is the team played? Use Alolan Marowak as the starter for your team. This Pokémon has the types Fire and Ghost and can deal high damage. If your opponent switches in a Water-type Pokémon, you can swap in the Grass Flying Pokémon Flygon.
Morlord is a good option as the last Pokémon or as a versatile joker if your first 2 Pokémon have problems. It has the types Ground and Water and has a very high defense that can frustrate your opponents.
What weaknesses does the team have? Alolan Marowak has weaknesses against 5 types: Water, Ground, Rock, Ghost, and Dark. Flygon has a single weakness to the types Fire, Flying, Poison, and Rock, as well as a double weakness to Ice attacks.
Morlord is only vulnerable to Grass-type attacks, for which it has a double weakness.
Team 2: Aggrostella, Emolga, Gastrodon
What moves should the Pokémon have? Equip your Pokémon with the following moves if you want to play this team in the Color Cup:
- Aggrostella: Poison Jab (Poison), Water Gun (Water) and Sludge Wave (Poison)
- Emolga: Thunder Shock (Electric), Acrobatics (Flying) and Charge Beam (Electric)
- Gastrodon: Mud-Slap (Ground), Body Slam (Normal) and Earth Power (Ground)
All attacks of this team can be learned without the use of Charged TMs.
How is the team played? Aggrostella has the types Poison and Water and has a high defense value. It’s one of the best Pokémon in the Super League and is thus also a good choice for the Color Cup. If your opponent’s Pokémon has a type advantage over Aggrostella, you can switch to Emolga (Electric, Flying) or Gastrodon (Water, Ground).
What weaknesses does the team have? Aggrostella has a single weakness to attacks of the types Electric, Ground, and Psychic. While you should protect Emolga from attacks of the types Rock and Ice, Gastrodon has only a single weakness: Grass.
However, against attacks of this type, the Pokémon has a double weakness, so Grass attacks can deal significant damage to your Gastrodon.
Team 3: Rexblisar, Baldorfish, Tortunator
What moves should the Pokémon have? If you choose this team, the following moves are a good choice for your Pokémon:
- Rexblisar: Powder Snow (Ice), Ice Storm (Ice) and Energy Ball (Grass)
- Baldorfish: Poison Sting (Poison), Hydro Pump (Water) and Ice Beam (Ice)
- Tortunator: Overheat (Fire), Dragon Pulse (Dragon) and Heat Wave (Fire)
You will not need any Charged TMs for this team either. With the use of regular Fast TMs and Charged TMs, you can obtain all the attacks.
How is the team played? Start with Rexblisar in this setup. The Pokémon not only deals good damage with its Fast Attack Powder Snow but also carries strong Charged Attacks.
When your opponent brings a Fire-type Pokémon into the fight, then switch in Baldorfish. With Hydro Pump, the Pokémon has a solid Charged Attack of the Water type that charges very quickly. As backup, you have Tortunator afterward.
What weaknesses does the team have? Rexblisar has a single weakness against attacks of the types Fighting, Flying, Poison, Rock, Bug, and Steel, most of which shouldn’t be played much in the Color Cup. Against Fire attacks, the monster has a double weakness.
While Baldorfish has single weaknesses against Electric, Ground, and Psychic, Tortunator can only be effectively hit by attacks of the types Ground, Rock, and Dragon.
Team 4: Akkup, Flunschlik, Hutsassa
What moves should the Pokémon have? For this setup, you should choose the following attacks for your Pokémon:
- Akkup: Volt Switch (Electric), Bug Buzz (Bug) and Charge Beam (Electric)
- Flunschlik: Thunder Shock (Electric), Mud Bomb (Ground) and Charge Beam (Electric)
- Hutsassa: Astonish (Ghost), Leaf Tornado (Grass) and Sludge Bomb (Poison)
For Akkup to learn Volt Switch, you will need to use a Charged Fast TM.
How is the team played? Akkup is a good starter with a strong defense. If your opponent switches in a Pokémon with Fire attacks, you can switch to Flunschlik. Hutsassa, on the other hand, can hit some opposing Pokémon hard with its attack combination.
What weaknesses does the team have? Akkup has a single weakness to Fire and Rock. While Flunschlik is weak against attacks of the types Grass, Water, Ground, and Ice, your Hutsassa should not take attacks from the types Fire, Flying, Ice, or Psychic.
Which team should I use? Which of these teams you want to use depends entirely on you. Depending on which Pokémon you own and whether you can and want to use Charged TMs, you can choose one of the teams or try several.
However, keep in mind that the Color Cup only runs for a limited time. You should also note that a good team alone is not a guarantee for a victory in the battle league, and there is no perfect team in Pokémon GO.
